  1. Drive for Lyft or get an adjunct teaching gig.
  2. Business casual. Like business slacks / skirt with flats and a trendy blouse? Accessorize (jewelry)with something tasteful and not distracting. Definitely my favorite messenger bag / briefcase thing with a fancy notebook. You want to show you have a personality while still remaining professional.
  3. UC Riverside, UCSD, and USC sent theirs out already. I think everyone is still waiting on Brandeis. Confession: I only applied to Brandeis because they waived the application fee! I feel better for getting that off my chest.
  4. Try posting here: To find this again in the future, type: Sociology in the search field and scroll down to interviews/acceptances/rejections Fall 2019. Good luck with UIC! (I'm still waiting to hear from UCI personally, get it? UCI and UIC!)
  5. I need advice. Back in October, a professor (and graduate advisor for the program) asked me to consider applying for his program. Another email later and he asked me to reach out to him if I had any questions about my application (like he really wanted me to apply). Fast forward to now, and the acceptance letters went out in January. I did not get one. I also did not get a rejection or waitlist. Should I reach out to him? I'm getting incredible offers from other incredible institutions but really want to consider his program too!
  6. This has to be a joke. No Sociologist would willingly go to Trump University (I'm sure they don't even have a soc program).
  7. @jriveracal This! I received a fellowship. The schools will pay whatever is the highest amount. Congrats on all your acceptances! And good luck with the Ford Foundation too (I also applied). Fingers crossed!
  8. @thetrailblazers I received a rejection letter from UCSB about a week ago. So if you haven't heard from them, you might have a shot there still!! USC on the other hand, I was told that they "sent out their acceptance letters already" but I have not received a formal rejection, but it's implied.
  9. Nice!! Congrats! Both you and @SgtDonut have had a successful application cycle. Kudos to you both! Have a drink or two for me!!
  10. Will you be my Valentine? - signed, your top choice!
  11. Has anyone heard/seen rejections go out for UCI? Has anyone heard/seen waitlists go out for UCI? (I'm still waiting on UCI, if you can't tell, hahahah).
  12. A friend of mine said she had to phone programs to get rejections. They don't necessarily all send them out, she said.
  13. Okay, this is good to know. I'll have to go back and check if UCI sent out rejections. I don't think they ever did.
  14. Changing the topic to: WAITLISTS. Does anyone know how they work? As an example, UCI sent out their acceptances. Would I still be waiting around to be waitlisted? Or is that a hard pass for me?
  15. Also, for those waiting for USC: I am in close communication with my POI. She told me they already sent out the acceptance letters.
  16. Same! I am waiting to hear back from UCI. My POI personally asked me to apply and I was forthcoming about my GPA and GRE scores. I did not receive any word so I figure I will receive a rejection letter sooner - though I'm hoping to be waitlisted. I do not know how that works. If anyone knows the process -- do they waitlist you on the spot? Or do you have to wait until after April 15th? I have received other (amazing) offers that I'd take if I don't hear from UCI.
  17. This is great news for the rest of us that have applied to the same schools! socchi92 cannot possibly accept ALL of them! Maybe we'll get an offer once socchi92 declines some offers! lolololol Congrats socchi92! I'm so jelly!
  18. Can you do some spy investigation work? First, is your professor teaching courses atm? He could be busy. Can you phone the department (make sure you're talking to a student assistant and not someone important) and kind of poke around with questions, "Is Professor X there today?" "Has he been around?" I'd be honest and tell them that you haven't heard from them (don't be begrudging about it, but rather act like, oh you know how professors are! So absent-minded, pfft, it happens, you feel me, right? - get on the same page as the student). Maybe the professor actually isn't there for good reason. Next, if you happen to build a rapport with the student on the phone, then perhaps come right out and ask what they think you should do. Tell them your situation - MAYBE expedite this up to one of the admin coordinator at the department, or maybe even the grad coordinator. Ask for advice! Don't complain! Be humble! Be thankful and show that you're sorry - you just didn't know what to do. Someone might understand and give you some assistance. Good luck!
