  1. I was accepted to CIR with half tuition waiver. Do you think that it's possible to move up on the list and get a better offer, if others decline it? I don't have any other offer and am still looking into options to finance my degree.
  2. I found it funny, especially the coffee shop part. This is when I feel a little soothed that at least I can return to Europe sometime in the future, where they may not let you die of poverty. This cycle did not work out for me either, probably because I started the process late and am bounded to a certain area, and to top it all, I'm a non-English speaker international student. It increasingly seems to me that I don't even know how PoliSci works here. Your comment made me think that a fair share of PhD applicants must be anxious high-achievers, who feel like there's nothing else left when you don't do well enough. I am starting to re-evaluate my identity which was predominantly based on academic achievement, because it is really toxic. I also feel like that my life is not headed anywhere, especially that I don't seem to be a competitive candidate at the job market of my location. But if you're capable of coping with this arbitrary process, and are mobile enough to go anywhere, I'm sure you will succeed in a job which excites you. And second-time applicants are way wiser than rookies, so I hope you succeed.
  3. I contacted the graduate program coordinator this morning, did not get a reply yet. Did you also contact her? Because then we should all email DGS Reno for any info, I guess.
  4. Good morning amazing people, and congratulations to all who have been accepted! I would address a question to the experienced applicants: would it make sense to reach out to one of the departments where things may not have been decided, and confirm that they're my top choice for very valid reasons? I heard that it may have a positive effect on one's standing on the unofficial wait lists. I feel like it's an utterly desperate step (it is), but I also feel like I have almost nothing to lose at this point.
  5. Nothing for me either. Maybe it's a good sign... However, based on two rejections and even more silence, I feel like that I screwed something up that will keep me out of everywhere... When is the appropriate time to ask POIs about weaknesses and future advice? End of April?
  6. Is this true for all subfields or only theory?
  7. Congrats to you! did the email mention anything about the size of next year's IR/CP cohort?
  8. I wonder why would they do this. Do they need a large pool in limbo as an unofficial wait-list or is this how they do administrative stuff? Anyway, I am ready (?) for one more month of permanent stress, hope and despair
  9. For people waiting for OSU: check the website, my rejection just appeared...
  10. The Admission FAQ says that they don't send their acceptances at the same time, so I hope to hear from them in the next few days. (I really do, pretty upset about no news from Ohio State)
