Everything posted by hello! :)

  1. One of my letter writers had hit reply and attached the letter. CollegeNet, ApplyYourself, and Embark were correctly submitted, but for one of the school with their own application system, the reminder came from the department address and the link was further down within the email. I can see how it can be overlooked... especially when professors are so busy.
  2. She might have replied directly to the reminder email and attached her LOR instead of going to the link to the submission website within the email. *shrug* Just a guess. :/ sorry.

  4. I had a surprise cake once... The cake looked like cat litter. The surprise was that it really was cat littler. Just kidding. It was delicious. If you haven't seen it before, the poop looking things are actually tootsie rolls. I can't really explain my name, except it's just me saying hello. And I love doggies and laughing is my favorite sport!
  5. LoL this is somewhat funny, but it's not so bad. Either last year or 2 years ago, UC San Diego's undergraduate admissions administrator accidentally sent all(?) rejected applicants with an email of acceptance. So of course, they had to follow that up immediately with a letter of rejection.
  6. It's not rude or anything, but it's not the right time. I would wait for the professor to ask you if you have any questions or after you get an offer of admission. <-- that is what I think "process is complete" means. I resonate with your eagerness to want to continue the conversation and talk more with the professor, but I would hold off so that you don't annoy them or come off as needy. You've done all that you could and I'm sure you've probably submitted one hell of an application. The ball is in their court now. Good luck!
  7. Ah, thanks for explaining. That certainly makes sense. Re: funding, don't quote me on this, but I think all of California is feeling the money crunch. So much so that the state considered legalizing marijuana, but it didn't pass. All CA state and UC faculty were also forced to go on "unpaid vacations" (i.e., take furlough days).

  9. @LJK: Sorry to go off tangent and if this is me being too nosey-- I noticed that you're applying to a lot of great programs, but why UC Merced? You're in a master's program and you have a full page CV already. AFAIK, UC Merced is not really known for their research.

    NDSEG 2010

Actually, I heard NSF GRF may be more prestigious compared to NDSEG, since many academics know that the NSF award is more heavily weighted on one's proposal in addition to accomplishments. On the other hand, fewer people receive NDSEG, so in that sense, yes, it may stand out more. Of course, the extra money that NDSEG gives is nice too. But for the record, I'm just a disinterested voice in the crowd, as I am not on the waitlist for this award.

    NDSEG 2010

Neurone, can I recommend that you take the NSF over NDSEG, since you have the potential of helping someone else out by giving them your spot. As for prestige, I've definitely seen both fellowships on professors' CVs before... It usually says "deferred to accept NDSEG" or vice versa. In any case, a big congratulations to you! That is a great feat! Edit: I forgot to add a congratulations to zxcv too!
