Hi everyone,
I just found this forum as I've been patiently waiting for York's response for the two year MSW program. I've recently been admitted to Laurier's two year on-campus MSW so it'd be awesome to connect with others in the program
Laurier's program seems like it'll be a really great fit for me as the clinical aspect is strong, however, I'm only concerned about the whole funding situation (hence why I'm still waiting for York!). I've checked laurier's page that discusses external and internal funding opportunities but it seems like the deadlines for some of these have past already . Does anyone have any more info on this?
Thanks!
Hi Ned!
For Laurier, it looks like we submit a "funding profile" at the end of the summer which will help the financial aid office narrow down which scholarships/bursaries/etc. we qualify for. So if you didn't apply to the OSG, other scholarships, etc.when you applied in January, there is still an opportunity to get other kinds of funding!

Still haven't heard from Laurier either! Has anyone gotten the snail mail yet, or the rejection on LORIS? I don't even know where to look on LORIS, could someone give me some direction?
Hi Jenna
When you enter Loris, click on "Admission Applications".
On the next page, you will see that beside program, the "Master of Social Work" text is clickable. When you click this, this is where you can see their decision - if it has been made.
Crossing my fingers for you!

Would anyone suggest taking Laurier's Social Work Professional Development Certificates and Workshops after completing the MSW?
There used to be a 50% fee discount for each course when taking the certificate workshops while you're still a student/attending classes. I don't think this is the case anymore the last cohort really fought to keep this discount, but they scrapped it. Maybe we can take on the fight.
I personally am interested in the CBT and trauma certificates.

Has anyone started a FB group for the 2-year on-campus MSW at Laurier?

Oh no, hopefully it's not May or June. When I emailed admissions back in January they said that they were expecting to have decisions out at the end of March/beginning of April and based on previous threads it looks like most people heard the first week of April for the 2 year program. Did you apply for the September 2019 start date Nicole?
There's also an online program with a Sept 2019 start-date which might be the one that Nicole applied to (separate from the regular, in-class 2-year); and that one has a later admission date.

Anyone waiting to hear back from Laurier two year program, admissions don’t go out until end of May/June, that’s what they told me when I emailed and asked! (Such a long wait )
Yikes! I heard end of March/early April.
By looking at previous threads from 2017-2018, people heard back about their admission acceptance for the Laurier 2-Year MSW around April 3rd-ish at the latest.
The May/June admission notices are for the online program, probably...

@SageAU good question haha I thought it was a bit surprising as well
So it looks like the original late March/early April decision deadline for the 2-year program still stands. Eep. Decision time is almost here.

Nope ? anyone received any mail from Laurier ...? I’m really surprised they’re already sending rejections ??
I am surprised too...
@Natalie.Gravel, are you sure this is for the 2-year program and not the advanced standing one (for people who already have a BSW)?

I got my snail mail on Friday from them.
Sorry, Natalie! I hope you hear some good news soon.
Surprised that they are so early regarding their decisions for 2-year.

that is a long, long wait. I hope it's worth it. did you apply to that program as well?
No, I applied to the FT 2-year one but when I e-mailed them about wait times, etc. they sent me this list:
- MSW Advanced Standing full-time program: end of February/early March
- MSW 2 year full-time program: end of March/early April
- MSW Online part-time programs (September start date): end of May/early June

Anyone heard anything from Laurier’s 2 year MSW program yet?
We have to wait until late March/early April. It's coming up soon! ?
They send an e-mail if we are accepted. Or a snail mail letter if we are not

Has anyone applied to the 2-year MSW at Laurier? Does anyone know when acceptances for the non-advanced standing program roll in?

I think we'll get that information once we are able to select courses... might not be until May or slightly later!
