  1. @celestial nomad Columbia doesn't waitlist for nothing, definitely take it as a win! It's my impression that the waitlist isn't ranked. I know it's very important to our faculty to have a diverse cohort of unique voices so if someone declines a spot they will look at the pool of waitlisted applicants to see who would be a good fit. Last year one person got off the waitlist (and only a week before orientation when someone dropped!) and they are truly one of the most brilliant people I know. Good luck and congratulations ?
  2. Hi all! I'm a first-year student at Columbia who was on this forum last application season -- glad to see so many prospective Columbia students on here this round and to see that those of you interviewing have had great conversations with David (although as far as I know it's impossible not to have a good conversation with him). Just wanted to pop my head in and say that my inbox is open if you have any questions after decisions come out. Columbia, like a growing number of universities, is cancelling admitted students events due to COVID-19 concerns this spring so if I can be of any help let me know. Good luck to everyone!
  3. I decided to accept Columbia’s offer! Just seemed like a better fit for me than Hunter, but Hunter is a great program so best of luck to those of you still waiting to hear!
  4. I spoke to Gregory Mosher (the chair of theatre) today. They’re reaching out to finalists this week. He got in touch with me today because I’d called this morning to check in (since I need to give Columbia an answer) but I’m not sure he’s reached out to everyone. From my brief conversation with him, it doesn’t seem like they’re going to know who the new director of playwriting is going to be before they make offers, which is too bad. The program definitely has some solid qualities (and an attractive price) but I don’t know how I’d feel about accepting an offer if I got one if don’t know who I’d be studying with...
  5. Assuming no one’s heard anything from Hunter yet? Right now I’m planning to accept my offer from Columbia but Hunter would be a lot cheaper if I got in...At this point I think I’d probably choose Columbia anyway because it seems like a better fit for me. I got a decent financial aid offer, I’d still have to take out a healthy chunk of loans and work my ass off but from what I’ve heard from current students/alumni they feel like it’s worth it. TLDR I’m so excited about Columbia but feel like I should wait to hear from Hunter to be responsible but it’s kiLLing mE.
  6. I really hope so! I love the program and am already based in NYC so it’s pretty ideal except for the cost. Until I get a financial aid offer I can’t say for sure.
  7. They didn’t say anything about that. I was kind of hoping they’d elaborate but since they didn’t I’m guessing they don’t know or they aren’t able to say yet...I didn’t push it. ?‍♀️
  8. @TheLumosChronicles David Henry Hwang called me this morning but he said he was traveling today so it’s totally possible he hasn’t reached out to everyone yet!
  9. Got an offer from Columbia today! Super excited but also very anxious to find out about financial aid ? I can deal with a little bit of soul-crushing debt, but there is a limit to how much I’m willing to permanently sabotage my financial health at 23 (even for Lynn Nottage). Hunter’s the only program I’ve yet to hear from so I gave them a call to see what’s up. They’re hoping to make offers “in early April” so there’s at least another week or two of waiting ahead. Not sure who’s reading the applications if they haven’t found a new Director yet?
