    Getting a low verbal score in the gre is truly depressing.

      Thanks for those kind words. I felt really down after seeing my score. I am still contemplating on retaking next month but I don't think my pocket can handle it.

      Hey kroms, a high score in the TOEFL and in the AW and a good SOP can make up for a low verbal score for the sciences. You will have to judge if you think the score is so low that it could cause problems - otherwise your SOP and research ability/potential can make up for it.

      Thanks, newms. I'll be waiting for my AW score before I decide if a retake is really necessary. I did pretty well in the TOEFL and got 114/120; I will definitely put extra effort in my SOP. It's really nice to have you guys to help rationalize these grad school application stuff.
