  1. Well, I think we all can relate. I should be finishing a MA thesis here, but instead I am just watching Twin Peaks and obsessively checking this page. I can't really work when I am in suspense.

Same. My MS Word file is blinking at me accusingly, but I just minimize and refresh GradCafe and my e-mail. Rinse and repeat x1000. I wish I could be productive under this level of anxiety!

  2. Okay, on the bright side friends, this means that we will probably get the results by the end of next week. That's at least a pretty firm time-frame that we can plan around. Ugh, so anxious!

Yes, exactly. Sooner, if your grad studies department releases the results of the competition by e-mail. I know that last year I was informed of the results of my MA-SSHRC application by e-mail days before I got the letter in the mail.

  3. My friend just informed me that he received the following e-mail from SSHRC:

"The doctoral awards competition is still in process. The results of the competition will be in mail by the beginning of next week. If your mailing address has changed, please inform us as soon as possible so that we may keep your file up to date"

So it looks as though SSHRC is sticking to their original claim to have the results in the mail by late April. Now here's to hoping that someone in the grad studies department will have mercy on me and e-mail me the results before the letter arrives by snail mail!

  4. I just sent an e-mail to SSHRC Fellowships, and I received the following reply:

    "Good afternoon,

    Thank you for your email.

The Doctoral Awards competition is still in progress. The results of the competition will be mail end of April beginning of May 2012.

If your mailing address has changed, please inform us as soon as possible so that we may keep your file up to date."

Sigh. I had hoped for an earlier release of tension this year, but it looks like we'll be waiting for at least another week or so.

  5. I just logged in to the SSHRC application website to check my status; to my surprise, my application form has been removed, and instead it reads "Nothing to display" in the space where my form used to be available for viewing. My profile still exists, but my 2012 SSHRC application form has been removed.

I'm wondering if (a) this has happened to anybody else, and/or (be) whether anyone knows if this is normal?

Hey there! Don't worry, this is perfectly normal. When I saw that my application had mysteriously vanished last year, I had a full-blown panic attack and called SSHRC. They said that once the competition is closed then the "application" is removed from the page. I hope this helps!

  6. I e-mailed my confirmation to SSHRC about a week ago. I got an automatic notification indicating that they got my letter and that it would be answered in the order that it was received, but I never received any other response. Is this normal? I hate to e-mail them again asking about it, since it'll just worsen the backlog of e-mails they have to go through, but I'm paranoid. I really don't want to decline OGS until I get a confirmation e-mail from sshrc.

  7. I also just got an e-mail from my grad office that I got the SSHRC-MA!!

Congratulations on those who've been successful so far, and good luck to those still waiting.

  8. Just received word from the chair of my department that I got an MA SSHRC (I guess they have sent the lists out to schools, though it is still technically "unofficial' until SSHRC gives the final nod that results can be published on University websites, etc.). It seems very likely then that letters have been/are being mailed out this week, and should arrive soon.

Congratulations! That's fantastic news. I'm just thankful that the wait is almost over.

  9. Has anyone recently contacted SSHRC regarding what date they are planning to send out MA letters?

No, not in about a week or two. It someone could call and post their response, that would be amazing.

  10. No magic letter for me today (a Masters applicant in Waterloo). Hopefully by the end of week or early next week at the latest!

Congratulations to all of the successful applicants. What a relief that all of your hard work paid off and your waiting is over!

  11. Congrats to those who are successful! Looks like us MA students are still going to have to wait for a bit.

Ugh, I hope not. The suspense is driving me insane.

  12. Either. It depends on what you originally applied for (i.e. the Masters or PhD OGS scholarship). There were slightly different requirements for each.

I apologize, I was not clear: I meant to ask whether the applicants were PhD or Masters students? My hope is that the ones finding out are of one category or the other.

  13. I think for the OGS results you just check online and then expect your snail mail.

Yeah, that's right. OGS doesn't email your results, they only update their website and then send the results via regular post. I read last year that they only update the website over night, but my results for 2010 were posted in the middle of the day, so... it's your call as to whether or not to obsessively check the website. :)

  14. Just received an OGS!! Check your status!!

I haven't gotten an update yet either. Well, now I'll start checking it (even more) obsessively.

    Congratulations!

  15. This is not what I was told this afternoon, which is that meetings are still taking place and letters are expected to go out at the end of the month. For MA anyway.

There is so much contradictory information involved with this process. I've heard that decisions are made over reading break, that decisions are made up to and including the middle of April, and that decisions are made from January to March. I realize that it is year-specific, but would it be so hard to provide a rough guideline under the FAQ page to prevent all of this needless anxiety?

I swear, someone somewhere must have gotten SSHRC grant to study human behavior under extreme duress and this was their proposed methodology.
