For those waiting, BU started notifying fiction. I got an acceptance this afternoon, had a nice conversation with Ha Jin, with follow up Email regarding funding etc..,cohort of ten.

I did not know this at all. i saw on their website now there is something vaguely described as post graduate fellowship. This is cool, I'm def gonna ask for more info about it now.

Not to add another variable to this but Michigan was always my top school. Not just because of the location+faculty, but also the guaranteed third year fellowship. It's really amazing to have a whole year of funding to just work on your MS without classes or anything.

Like @feralgrad said, try to think of your top 3 schools. What if you get admitted to BU, for example, and you have already accepted Colorado state or Ohio? I would ask for an extension really, explain gently/diplomatically that you need more time and see what they say....don't feel pressured into going to a school you don't want to...

Just FYI, I got a letter in the post today with details of Iowa admission. It is still not the official letter (from office of admissions that an applicant can accept/decline) so it is going to definitely take some more time. I believe even wait listed students are also notified via post. If people decline before April 15th, you'll get off the wait list.

Same. This was my top school....hard not to feel like I'm not good enough for them.

Many! I'm a non-trad student as well, MFA would be a second career, basically, and I know that its pretty common, may even be an advantage because you have proven your commitment already, by giving up a current job and education etc.,. The writing sample is the, the, the most important part of you app. If that is great, then a less than stellar personal statement won't hurt you. The general advice is to not read app materials after you submit to avoid adding the I-wish-I-did-this to the already deadly combination of waiting, suspense and disappointment. Try to take your mind of things by doing other stuff, a few mistakes in the personal statement won't hurt you. Good luck.

I'm guessing that they read the first story in each app and continue only if it interests them? similar to litmags? dunno, that part is shrouded in mystery.

Damn! I love Chi-Town but srsly, 100 grand is a terribly high sum.

I feel like the 'how writing complements cohort' part is used as a tie breaker when there are multiple, equally qualified candidates, which is why you apply more than one place. But, still, i'd say how you stack up against fellow applicants is the primary filtering mechanism when you have 1000+ apps to get through in 2 months.....just my thoughts....

I believe the results came out very early in the morning last year, based on notes on the results board. I hope you are right though !
