  1. Political Science (IR): CEU, Manchester, U Delaware, Aberystwyth Sociology: Minnesota, Notre Dame, Warwick colors: accepted, interviewed, pending, rejected
  2. Hey, is the person who emailed the Notre Dame grad coordinator here? I was wondering what all they said, if you don't mind sharing!
  3. I applied last year to ND Sociology and made it to the finalist interviews, and as I was living in Europe at the time, I did a Zoom interview instead of attending the in-person visit day. From my understanding, the most compelling people were offered admission and the rest were placed on a funding waitlist. My guess is that it's similar for poli sci, but I could be wrong.
  4. I did a two year MA in Budapest. It's hard to say whether it helps significantly for PhD apps in the US, but if you already have an MA, you are able to apply to PhD programs in the UK and continental Europe. Of course, there are other benefits too, like networking, research experience, international experience, etc. that will help you on any application. I think it all depends on your goals, your research, and your funds. For me, I was switching fields, so I felt that it was important to do a master's before applying for PhD programs, and between a great scholarship and low cost of living, it just made sense to go to school over in Europe.
  5. Sorry to hear that you also got a rejection, that's definitely not good news ? Hoping you get some good news soon to make up for it! From what I've seen of previous years and other schools, usually if results all don't come out at the same time, then acceptances are generally released first, so that's why originally I thought it was odd to see the posts. I actually had thought that I didn't have a super great shot because I don't have a demography or sociology background. My MA was in International Relations and my research interests are primarily are North/South international tourism, which I definitely had to refocus a bit when they announced the merger. I guess I'll try not to read too much into it until I hear, but definitely crossing my fingers.
  6. Hey there seems to be two posts about a rejection from Minnesota, is that anyone here? I haven't gotten anything either way on my MN app, so seems weird to me to have only rejections being posted.
  7. Got my first admit today at the University of Warwick in the UK! Still waiting on a bundle of schools and to hear back about funding at Warwick, but hoping that the good news keeps coming (for me and everyone else here, too)
  8. Anyone claiming the rejection from Manchester? It's from beginning of Jan for the PhD in Politics. From my understanding the application should take at least 6 weeks to process, so it just seems early for news. Also just generally, good luck to everyone applying, this is my second cycle, and I'm definitely feeling more fatalistic about it this time around
  9. Every year there are people that submit fake results for some of the top schools to just cause chaos. So if there is only one result that's really early and there are no details in the result, it's probably just that.
  10. Congrats to any and all Duke admits. Has anyone gotten a rejection from UT? I'm assuming it's a lost cause regardless, but figured I'd inquire.
  11. Hi! Just wanted to mention that I received an invite via email today to Notre Dame's Prospective Students day. I am so excited because this is one of my favorite programs. Good luck to anyone else who applied there!
  12. Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm starting to look at which schools to apply to for PhD programs. I was wondering if anyone had some advice on schools of which rank I would be a competitive applicant. I'm looking for Fall 2020 start dates, and am hoping to soon make a list of all the programs I want to apply for, but I'm unsure where to start. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance BA: Attended top 50 university, majored in English Literature, minors in Sustainable Development & Creative Writing. GPA 3.8 MA: Attended top 50 school in International Relations, with concentration in development studies. Receiving certificate in religious studies. GPA 3.6 (had a rough first semester due to personal reasons) GRE: 163v, 152q Research/Grant Experience: Received two research grants during undergrad for thesis research. Received Fulbright student research grant. Also done a few poster presentations at local conferences. Teaching Experience: Taught ESL for two years. Languages: English (native), German (C1), Hungarian (A2) LORs: Strong letters from current MA professors, might ask research advisor (sociology) from my BA too Research Interests: Development/IR focus Any feedback would be super helpful!
