I want to thank all of you who found time to comment on my application.
It seems like the consensus is that I should aim for top 30-50 schools with more emphasis on bigger state school like PennState or NCSU. Also, what I found surprising is that research experience may be slightly less important going into Stats/Math Phd than it is for CS/Physics PhD.
For now, my list of schools looks like PennState, Ohio State, NCSU, Purdue, Pitt, UW Madison, UM Twin Cities, and UI Urbana Champagne. I will update the list when I get my GRE Math Score. As of now the plan seems to be in order of priority:
Do my best to keep up the good work at school and retain high GPA Prepare well for GRE Math (I am not good at taking standardized tests really, but I will try to do my best anyways) Ask profs to write good and string rec letters  Write personal statement highlighting some research experience that I had (personal research + unfinished research with prof) I will try to keep this thread up to date with my progress just in case somebody later on could find all this info useful. Maybe if I dont get in in the first round, I may even use these steps later on to reconsider my strategies in the second round (reapply after one year).
Again thank you all for your advice.

When you get federal, state and local tax breaks as well as a large share of your income comes from the federal government at least 50 per cent if not significantly more of your students should be domestic.  The percentage shouldnt hover around 10 per cent.
When you say they have a "badass biostats group too" is that meant to imply they violate title 9 and Brock Turner is their hero?

Yeah, I try to keep myself out of this forum and my inbox for the most part. However, each time I get an email I shudder

SAME! At least I hope I am waitlisted since they have not rejected me directly. Fingers crossed for top of the waitlist and hopefully some results will come before my response ddl's.

The rollercoaster is terrible, but it's not even March. Mid-March is when decisions really roll out. Initial waves have just been sent out or are being sent out now. Most schools don't send out other waves of acceptances until after they here from their first wave, that way they don't send out too many.
You guys are fine. The waiting game sucks- but it happens year after year. Develop hobbies and find ways to keep yourself out of your email. That's what I did!
    Best of luck.

@MrSergazinov They are both good so far as I know.  However, I recall Dr. Katzfuss (at TAMU, incidentally an Ohio State alum) was hiring a computational statistics postdoc this past year, so maybe he would be a good first person to start researching.  He does Kalman filters and spatial stats, I believe.
