Congrats bdon19 and Timshel! Even though I haven't been very active on this board, I've been pulling for you guys all along! You two and others are the heart of the Grad Cafe community. Congrats! Timshel, I've got a few friends at UCR and had a chance to participate in their annual grad student conference last April, and I can tell you that you'll be very happy there should you decide to take their offer, particularly if you're into ethnic lit! I would've applied there if the fit between my research interests and those of their Americanists were better. Hoping there's more good news coming everyone's way!

Thanks for the info; it all sounds reassuring. It's just that Duke has been my dream school for quite a while. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would make it to this round. Anyway, you might also want to check out these threads in the meantime:

Thanks for creating this thread! I'm also incredibly nervous about the interview at Duke. I can't really tell what the format will be from the itinerary they sent out. Will we be interviewed individually in front of the admissions panel or one-on-one with our POIs? I'll be e-mailing them soon to get some sense of the process. In the mean time, I will pick my mentors' brains for ideas and schedule some kind of mock interview with them. I'll come back to this thread soon with more ideas...

Sorry I'm late to the conversation, but I wanted to congratulate Ivandub, Enzian, and Vordhosbntwin (with extra kudos for his/her reconnaissance efforts and undying hope). I, too, will join you on "Prospectives Weekend." (I was the second person to report an acceptance on the board, I believe). Looking forward to seeing you all there! I hope we all make it to the final cut. Edited to reiterate that this is in reference to the Literature Program.

Aldousarendt, did you apply to UCLA or UC Irvine, by any chance? I know a few folks from their comp. lit. programs, and I know there's a lot of fantastic work on Arabic literature and culture coming out of those institutions. Hang in there, and good luck!
