  1. Some of them have had decades of training, at least that's what I remind myself to keep from going insane.
  2. Thanks, everyone! I'm simply over the moon. I was not expecting this at all--or most of my acceptances for this matter. I have a lot of thinking and soul-searching to do in the next several weeks. UPenn has made this decision all the more difficult for me, but what a happy problem it is to have. After this is all over, I hope to share some insights I've gleaned through this application process with anyone thinking of applying next year. I've always considered myself an academic underdog in many ways, so I sincerely think that some of my experiences may give others hope. Aeplo, my specialty is in the rise of corporate culture and immigrant fiction at the turn of the twentieth century. What's yours? Best of luck to everyone!
  3. It was actually a voicemail message quickly followed by an e-mail. I got the call less than half an hour ago.
  4. Oh, my god... I'm in!! I can't even think straight right now.
  5. I didn't apply to Harvard, but I have a feeling the post was a hoax. Somehow it strikes me as too nonchalant to be real. I would've gone to town on the comments section!
  6. Hello, I was one of the people admitted. My e-mail from Ms. Udal was equally terse; it was a short "Congratulations" accompanied by two attachments--a letter of acceptance and another document notifying me of a fellowship nomination. As bdon infers, I may have received an early notification because of the fellowship. I hope more acceptances are on their way. I am 80% sure I won't be taking their offer at this point, so I hope my slot will be given to someone on the program's waitlist if they do have one. Please stay hopeful!
  7. getting a serious case of the impostor tremens.

Thank you, crazygirl! I'm feeling a bit better today. Best of luck on your interviews!

  8. Hasta la vista, Brown!
  9. Congrats, Grimwig!!
  10. ugh... i'm thisclose to just cancelling my interview.
  11. I haven't received a rejection letter from Brown either! Hope this bodes well for everyone in the same situation.
  12. Yes, please! I'd be happy to PM you if that's what you prefer.
  13. global catastrophe
  14. overpass.
  15. Congrats, girlmostlikely! With 24 visitors, I'm sure the event will be a lively one! I look forward to meeting you and everyone else who has been accepted. Chicago ranks very high on my list of options right now, but I don't want to commit until I've heard from the rest of my prospective programs. The unlikely event of being admitted to Yale or UPenn may turn the tide, after all.
  16. Hello, Dorinda. Yes, I am! Will I see you there?
  17. Thanks, rb. Hope some acceptances come your way! It ain't over 'til April 15.
  18. Do any of you know what's up with the interviews? I wonder if Yale's English program is going to be conducting them after all. I remember reading a back-and-forth conversation on the Results Board a few weeks ago discussing a change in policy that required all programs in the GSAS to interview their finalists. Someone even posted the following link: http://www.yaledaily...ver-interviews/. However, it's interesting that someone in this community got accepted to the comp. lit. program without interviewing (of course, that program was the most resistant to the idea of the interviews according to the article). Hmmm... Let's hope the English program follows suit. Good luck, y'all!
  19. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Chicago doesn't do waitlists. I am one of the admits and one of my POIs mentioned something to that effect when we spoke last week.
  20. you see
  21. but
  22. Definitely. At least in the field of English literature, the most important components of your application are the Statement of Purpose and Writing Sample. I was nervous that a dismal score on the quantitative section (on the 30th percentile) and a mediocre 4.5 on the AW section would ruin my chances of being accepted, but I was very surprised to find out that even some of the most competitive programs do assess your application materials holistically.
  23. Congrats to the acceptee! Talk about an amazing funding package...
  24. I had to make arrangements for a skype interview due to extenuating financial circumstances. =( Have fun for me, Vordhos, and take copious notes on "The Aesthetics of Singularity."
