  1. Hi JRPK, Thanks for your kind words. I got into ASU and University of FL. I didn't apply to NYU ... I was about to but changed my mind. (I went there for my MA). I decided on ASU and I am so happy that I did. I recommend their program. They just went through restructuring of their whole department. The Professors care a lot about their own students, which is wonderful. Apply to both but make sure you make it a point to visit both departments and make yourself known. I went all the way to AZ from the East Coast to visit and I'm so glad I did. Good luck!
  2. Hi Daffodil, Is there any way you can apply to a doctorate program instead of a masters program? There exists a lot more funding for doctorate programs while very little for masters programs. In the event that you don't want to go all the way to the doctorate, there is always the terminal degree, but at least you've found funding. I would recommend against putting yourself in $60000 debt. I did it for my MA and I'm having a heck of a time trying to pay it off. Good luck
  3. My undergraduate GPA was a 2.56 from a big name University. Because I took out a loan instead of asking for funding, I went to a big name private University in NYC and graduated with an MA. For me, it was like starting over with a clean slate. I graduated with all A's and two A-. My 2nd Masters was completed at a smaller public school and I finished that one with a 3.94 GPA. My GRE math score was good... verbal score was bad! So, I count on the fact that PhD programs will not look at my UG GPA. I hope that my 2 Masters GPAs will override these. Good luck! It can be done!

    ASU

Hi, if you don't mind me asking: What is a very good funding package? Is it more than $13000 / year? I'm wondering how generous the Education school is in terms of funding.
  5. I'm sorry to hear about this. If I were you, I'd appeal it, first. If it doesn't work out, then is there any way that you can transfer to another university and try again? Most of your credits should transfer over. You may have to take a few classes to get residency but then you can use your experiences to write an even better thesis. Good luck! Please let us know the outcome.
  6. Congrats Jonovision. Did you get any funding? I'm curious to know if there is funding for PhD students in your area.
  7. I was accepted to ASU. I accepted their admission decision. Can I go back and defer my decision even though i said "yes"? Is this horrible?
  8. I'm torn between NYU Steinhardt's Educational Communication and Technology program versus Arizona State's Educational Technology program for PhD. Both are highly regarded. Which school and program are better? (NYU offers more $$ in terms of funding).
  9. Just found out today from a professor.. I got into ASU Official letter to arrive within a few days.
  10. Still waiting on Arizona State. Supposedly they'd have word by today. Keeping my fingers crossed!
  11. I am in the same boat. I applied to Arizona State University in late February. The only thing were the letters of recommendation, which finally arrived to them on April 9th. I'm waiting for a response from them. So far, my application status is "Under review" by the department. (It left the admissions office and went to the department.) 1) I visited the campus and the faculty members last month. 2) I have two master degrees with 4.0 GPA and 3.99 GPA respectively. 3) My quantitative math score was high. My verbal wasn't. 4) My undergrad GPA is not so hot. I just want an answer!!! Another school accepted me and since ASU is my first choice, I want to wait until they get back to me before I do anything, but the deadline is drawing near to give the 2nd school a response. What do I do??? This is killing me softly
  12. I just asked the University of Florida (unfunded) to defer my admission decision to Fall 2011. I think that it would probably be better for me to turn it down. It's not my top choice school and maybe I can free up the spot for someone else. My top choice (Arizona State) has not gotten back to me, yet.
  13. My GPA for my first Master Degree is a 4.0 My GPA for my second Master Degree is a 3.99 In my field, I have excellent computer skills in web design. I have classroom experience (8 years) of which more than half of that time was spent in an urban area I have very strong and positive Letters of recommendations. They asked for 2, I gave them 4. I am fluent in various languages and proficient in a few more. Quantitative score on GRE is very high compared to others in my field. Wow, I never stopped to list the positives. It makes me feel much better, now! Good idea, whoever started this!
