  2. I would suggest getting involved with AmeriCorps. They have many criminal justice/re-entry programs. Here's one that I found quickly. https://my1.americorps.gov/mp/listing/viewListing.do;jsessionid=c0a8060e30d752a26a8c5b904deb9b9fcbe5147c0e3a.e3uLc3qRa3yOe34PbxaSc3iTbNr0n6jAmljGr5XDqQLvpAe?fromSearch=true&id=1341&SID=c0a8060f30d61b3715c2bdf44db5ae099e6b42904443 AmeriCorps is also highly regarded among many schools, providing an education award that many universities will match. Look into it, especially if you have time before applying to grad school. Good luck!
  3. I had the same thing happen to me, with the funding changed from yes to no. I contacted admissions a few weeks back when I first noticed this. They say they are aware of the problem, and will be considering people who submitted the application on time. Apparently it was a computer glitch. So don't worry about that being a sign of rejection.
  4. Hmm...I didnt get an e-mail. Not looking good. Congrats to everyone who did get in!!! Has anyone been rejected yet? Looks like only acceptances have been posted on the results page.
  5. someone posted an acceptance!!! I guess they have started contacting people again...*sigh*
  6. this is cruel and unusual punishment. i am sick of waiting. this is the only school i havent heard from yet. I have to tell other schools by April 15th. I hope I hear something before then. *sigh*
  7. I am having the same issue. Ive been accepted to two schools, UC Irvine in Orange County, California...and New School Milano, in NYC. I love love love NYC, and am not too fond of Orange County, but the school in Orange County is much higher ranked than the school in NYC. I am still waiting to hear from NYU, which would complicate this even more, but right now I am leaning towards UC Irvine. I figure, after I graduate I can move anywhere I like...and hopefully be able to get whatever job I desire. I figure a better school will help this process.
  8. Anyone heard anything new from Wagner? At least we've gotta hear something this week, right?
  9. I am currently reading a book called "The Paradox of Choice". Check it out. Its all about how having too many choices "robs us of satisfaction." Its interesting. I started the book not even realizing how relevant it was to grad school. I guess I am lucky I only have one acceptance so far. haha. Just remember, the experience you have is what you make of it. So don't worry too much about it.
  10. I emailed Wagner, and they wrote back saying this: "We appreciate your interest in NYU Wagner. The review committee is currently in the process of assessing the status of our prospective applicants. You will be notified of your status as the committee reaches the decision by March 31st or approximately 8
  11. E-mail. I think they are still waiting for the postal acceptance though. Check the results page.
  12. I havent heard anything either. Im not taking that as a very good sign. But you never know. grad school admissions work in mysterious ways. *sigh*
  13. For those who are also still waiting, I was informed that they are still reviewing applications. I guess the first wave of accepts were the really qualified candidates. Once those applicants start to reply, Wagner will get an indication of how many more than can accept, and then the next wave will come. Rejects will probably go out last...but seriously, all this waiting sucks.
  14. I really wish they would hurry up and notify everyone! I feel like I am going to be rejected...but it would be nice to just have a definitive no, rather than this strange middle place. I really wanted to go to school in NYC. *sigh*
  15. Oh, does your acceptance show up on the apply yourself website? Thanks!
  16. Congrats!! I have yet to hear anything...and now I am even more nervous. Do you think you will attend?

Im glad to hear the school and area didnt seem completely void of any sort of culture. Ive still got a few weeks until my open house. Most people Ive talked to recommend getting a car. Seems reasonable enough. Just means it is about time I get my drivers license! Yes, yes. I am 23 years old, and I do not have my license. Ive never needed it with public transportation getting me around in half the time, and usually cheaper. But Orange County seems kinda ridiculous to navigate by bus. I looked up how long it would take to get from UCI to the Santa Ana Airport. According to the website, it would take about an hour. Umm, an hour to go like 5 miles? Not my cup of tea. I guess I'll grow up and get my license. haha.
  18. I just saw that someone listed on the results page that NYU Wagner will be contacting people on Monday. I eagerly await my rejection letter.
  19. Lucky me! I get to fly from SFO to SNA at 6:10am...yay! Do you think you'll attend UCI?
  20. I'm from San Francisco. I havent figured out if Im flying in super early on the 30th or the day before...still trying to decide if i really wanna get up at like 5am that day. haha...doesnt sound so appealing.
  21. Hey! Wow, I didnt expect to find anyone else on these forums also applying to DEA. I am sooo anxious too!! I wish I knew when to expect to hear anything from them... Are you from NY, or somewhere else? Im all the way out in California
  22. Yes yes. I am. Im excited to learn more about the program. What about you, attending the open house?
  23. I'll answer my own questions. I found on the website information about the admitted students day. Its on April 3rd 9-5pm. http://wagner.nyu.edu/admissions/accepted/visiting.php Seems like all of the schools I applied to have open houses the same week. Sigh.
  24. It all really depends on your reference point. I grew up in San Francisco, and am pretty familiar with high rent for small spaces. With that being said, Santa Cruz wasnt that bad in comparison. I attended UC Santa Cruz for my undergrad and lived off campus for two years. Rent for my own room in a house with other roommates was $625, a shared room was $525. The shared room was a much nicer apartment. If you do your research, Im sure you can find something that will fit your needs. Of course, the closer you are to campus the more expensive housing prices are. To save money, Id recommend living on a bus route (as your student ID will let you on free). Groceries can be expensive. Santa Cruz is very much the hippie vibe with many grocery stores catering to the organic all natural crowd, which is usually so over-priced anyways. Safeway on Mission, and Trader Joe's downtown were good options for me. I probably spent about $25-$30 per week on groceries, and I avoided eating out as much as possible. You can definitely find ways to save money. Good luck!
  25. I dont really care how Im rejected, just so long as they tell me in a timely manner. Send it by e-mail not snail-mail.
