  1. I'm pretty sure, but I would reach out to GEM rep at the university to be sure.
  2. From what I understand after talking to some GEM reps, the GEM consortium doesn't put up a whole lot of money... The majority of the money for an Associate/University fellowship comes from the GEM university itself.
  3. First, I would clarify what level they will sponsor you at: Full, University, or Associate. Once you have in writing that they will sponsor you at a given level, I would feel comfortable signing an acceptance letter. I am assuming that "unfunded" in this case means extra money coming directly from the university and not related to your GEM contract. I highly doubt that they would back out on an agreement like GEM...
  4. In my case (this from a GEM rep), the sponsor funding was tied to me completing the internship this summer. If I don't intern with ORNL this summer, then they likely won't give any money. This effectively makes is so I can't be a "full" GEM fellow. Since it was canceled, I am not gonna bank on them reinstating the internship so I'm looking for other internships/job opportunities. If in your case, the money is tied to you completing the internship and they canceled it, then I would go for the non-GEM internship. If they are still willing to give you funding even though the internship in canceled, then maybe I would wait to except a non-GEM internship a little longer. If the non-GEM employer doesn't give you and more time to sign and your internship is still canceled, then I would go for it. It's late in the game to be recruiting for internships and more internships in general may be canceled, so I would take whatever WFH internship I could find. Contact GEM to see if the money is attached to the internship completion though.
  5. Yeah, was supposed to intern with ORNL, but that got cancelled... ?
  6. Yes. I think that in general the deadlines that GEM sets for companies and universities are "soft". I think that this will only be exacerbated by COVID-19. I have still not received a formal offer letter from my employer and many universities GEM reps have taken a while to respond. I'll most likely end up asking for an extension on the April 15th deadline for the universities that I'm seriously considering to attend. The whole situation certainly adds an element of suspense... ?
  7. The names show up for me as well, but don't turn red. The names that show up in that drop down box are the ones that you have changed to "Applicant Self-Reported Accepted" - it does not mean that they have extended an offer. To see which schools have actually given you offers, you hit the "Click here to update your record..." in the Grad School box (on the home page) and look under the column "offers".
  8. I wouldn't stress too much over it. It took a month from me being notified I was selected to it actually showing up in eGEM. Hopefully it doesn't take that long for you though...
  9. I reached out to them directly - I did not use the GEM website for this. Once they selected me, I accepted on eGEM.
  10. From what I understand, no. If you turn down the internship then you turn down the entire fellowship (at least that's what I gathered from the webinar). Definitely reach out to GEM and clarify that with them, then correct me if I'm wrong.
  11. I emailed the employer directly from my personal email. Through LinkedIn/google, I compiled a list of names + emails of recruiters that I thought were either in charge of GEM for their company or could put me in contact with someone that helped select GEM interns. Then just shot an emailed and hoped for the best - it's always worth the try!
  12. @orchidaceae I would go for it. I reached out to an employer in December and got a positive response. I'll be interning with them this summer. Was able to accept offer on eGEM about a week ago, but still haven't gotten an official letter.
  13. So I am I under the impression that if you get an offer from a GEM employer and get accepted into a GEM university, then you will get be a GEM Full Fellow... Does this seem correct or can a GEM university decide to not sponsor you, but you still get the internship?
  14. I emailed them about the max score being incorrect for the GRE, but heard nothing back. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ @stafo Not too concerned tho... Anybody been contacted by a GEM employer yet?
