Question for everyone. Did you all know what you wanted to write before you applied (I specifically mean poetry versus nonfiction versus fiction)? I got very discouraged while writing fiction (my once lifelong passion) so I switched to poetry. I think that may have been a mistake.

Rejected from Syracuse

Hi I’ve come back. Life circumstances are wearing me down and the thought of waiting another year to reapply while dealing with the same issues makes me want to rip out all my hair strand by strand. I desperately need good news from anywhere at this point.

I literally read that wrong and freaked out for a bit.

Definitely just got rejected by WUSTL, and I know that getting into any one of my top three after that is going to be really hard. Maybe I should invest some time into finding a backup plan in case this all goes south.

The Michael's coupons get me too. I still shop there I'm just a little more bitter when I go.

Fiction, poetry, and CNF acceptances went out yesterday. The rejections typically go out the next day, but in 2018 they went out two days afterwards so I’m gonna wager that the rejections are going out tomorrow.

I’m starting to think they’ll go out tomorrow and I feel like an idiot for waiting all day for this. No one’s posted any rejections. If y’all can’t tell, I hate waiting, I’m extraordinarily bad at it.

I feel terrible for asking everyone, but has anyone seen an email from WashU? The rejections go out historically at five their time, yeah?

Dear god, I’d say that’s worse than getting constant spam from a Syracuse number. UC Irvine definitely tried to give you a heart attack.

If none of those schools have notified yet you should be fine if your portal hasn’t said anything. For Iowa I’m stuck on “In Progress” and Cornell didn’t change, all I know is that they definitely received it. Wish I could tell you more about the others.

Ah, in your “view checklist” section it will say your status under application status.

I think so too. I’m still “Ready for Review”, if a bunch of us are still in limbo then I’ll know for a fact that person was trying to give us all heart attacks.

@GernderKitten @sallyvalley did you see the rejection on the results page? Think it’s real? I checked my portal and I’m still in limbo. Are either of you, or anyone else really, willing to check your portal and report back?

Fingers crossed for you too. As far as I’m aware rejections typically come out the day after, so as long as we make it through tomorrow, we might hit the waitlist.

Anyone else a little unnerved by the lack of results in a program that historically notifies by now? I feel like I’m about to walk into Armageddon without any warning ahead of time

Depends on a lot of factors tbh. If it weren’t too far away from me it wouldn’t hurt to go again.

I don’t really like sharing stuff with other people unless it’s in a workshop setting or other serious setting. Sharing with one of my two writer friends just results in the useless phrase “I like it”. I crave feedback, my work needs to be better.

Just Ignore this. Don’t mind me I’m just leaping to conclusions. (I literally read the above as washU and I freaked out)

Question for everyone: What are you thinking of doing after getting an MFA? Yeah I want to teach/publish books, but I’m starting to wonder what other options are out there. Thanks in advance.

I enjoyed this. I can’t wait until the day I start screaming because I was accepted somewhere. I’m currently in a Barnes and noble both hoping and not expecting to hear from a program soon.

They haven’t sent out acceptances yet (as far as I know, I’m not on draft), so it might just say what mine said. That being said, I’m compulsively checking it and I can’t stop, it’s probably better that you don’t check.

Just curious, does anyone else’s WashU portal still say “Ready for Review”? I would assume they’re notifying soon, so it seems a little weird to me. I’m sure I’m freaking out over nothing like usual though...
