  1. Bring copies of your CV printed on resume paper (it looks more professional and i have gotten compliments on it every time), a pad folio or leather folio, and some pens! It looks professional, and gives you a space to jot down info and potential new questions
  2. If you don't have any clinical experience but have some volunteer experience, I would touch on that. For example, I haven't done any clinical work, but i've done therapy dog work at a memory care facility for years and have been volunteering at a respite program for developmentally/neurologically impaired children for the past year. It shows that you have had some exposure to the field. If you haven't, just discuss your excitement to learn more in that area!
  3. For the SLU Posters, was it a mass e-mail or an individual email from your POI? Thanks!
  4. That is kind of bizarre. I would definitely shoot them an e-mail!!! It won't hurt
  5. For "How do you think about research?" I hav told people that I view it as a process. It is not a straight line, and we as researchers have to be okay with changing out ideas here and there. They may be assessing how you are able to work and clarify your ideas under pressure. For how you work within a system, keeping is positive is always great. Bonus if you really are a team player! They're looking for people who are pleasant and easy to work with
  6. This is helpful, thank you! I was wondering how to answer a question like this
  7. This is a good point! Since my program was talking so much about collaboration and how tight-knit everyone was, I really want them to see *me* as a person outside of my work and research, because I have a lot to offer besides that!. If I wasn't a psychologist I would be a neurologist ? Wondering if I should pick a different answer, lol
  8. Perfect, thank you! I was thinking about family, friends, work, and my volunteering that I do. I'm happy that they were interested in you as a person! The place I'm interviewing at real stressed diversity and interpersonal connectivity/collaboration on their website, so I am hoping my interview is kind of similar.
  9. Huh, this is interesting. Thanks! I have overcome some really adverse experiences that I think add detail to my application and would further me as a clinician, so I am trying to find a way to weave that in as I do think it makes me stand out As for what made you happy, did you choose something academically-oriented? The first thing that came to my mind was my family and friends and my support network, but that might not be a good answer
  10. Ah, this is good info, thank you! Since you've already had an interview, any way you can give a general synopsis of questions asked? I know each school is different, but if i could get a flavor of what is asked so I can draft some talking points, it would be much appreciated!
  11. Does anyone know how soon after interviews they begin sending out offers? I've been stalking the results page for previous years, and it looks like some of them were offered a spot as soon as 10 days after the interview..is this customary? Is there a typical timeline?
  12. Hi everyone, starting to get the vibe that this will be my only interview, so I really want to nail it. Could anyone please tell me some general questions that are normally asked (i.e. research interests, personal background, etc). The program i'm applying to has a really big focus on community and diversity which i LOVE, so I'm assuming they'll ask some questions about that.
  13. God bless, lol thanks so much for the update!
  14. This guide is amazing. God bless the man who wrote it and thank you SO much for sharing it! I have a feeling this will be my only interview, so I really want to make sure that I nail it.
  15. So this wasn't a mass email? I'm wondering if it is still a possibility to get an invite, or if i should cross it off my list.
  16. YES TO THIS! My research mentor was *so* confident that I would get at 2-3 interviews. Now it's looking like just one. The pressure is on as this is my top pick and I get the feeling it is going to me by *only* interview, lol. Looking at it as a personality check is a good mindset. I keep having to remind myself that they wanted me for a reason and I'm not an imposter, lol If anyone in this thread has advice on what questions are normally asked so I can prepare, that would be much appreciated. Now I need to make extra sure that I nail the interviewQ
  17. I have assumed rejection from all of the schools but the one i received an interview from and 2 more. However, I saw someone post for Wayne State on the results page, so its looking like the school I got an interview for...and one more lol. This is a very disheartening process and I honestly feel like a medical school applicant. If only I was better at taking my own advice
  18. I'm in this boat too. I need to take my own advice, but keep your head up! I know only getting one interview invite sucks, but its better than none
  19. Y'all I deadas* think I am about to be rejected from all of my PhD programs except one, an even then I still have to go through the interview process, so nothing is a guarantee. I do have several research-based Masters programs as a backup, but my first goal is obviously to land in a PhD program. My mom (who also has her PhD) keeps telling me that I just need one "yes", but it still sucks crossing schools off my list and wondering what I did wrong ? Please don't get me wrong, I am VERY excited to have gotten an interview from UTSW as it is one of my top schools but watching my list dwindle sucks as I don't have a backup in case I get rejected after the interview. This whole process is a rollercoaster
  20. YES! at least im not crazy lol, My cousin went to UNT and loved living in Denton
  21. Just noticed that someone posted an interview invite from Wayne State on the results page. If that person is you, could you possibly tell me if it was a mass e-mail or a personal e-mail from your POI? Thanks!
  22. i second this! I don't want to *just* be interacting with my PI
  23. I looked at the results page- last year SLU didn't send our invites until January 24th. Fingers crossed as this is one of my top choices. I am not sure about Wayne State! I also applied there and have not heard anything back yet.
  24. Congrats! This is a great school. One quick question, was your rejection from U of Houston assumed or formal? I haven't actually heard anything from them, so I am assuming rejection.
  25. Wow, thanks for this! I am planning on asking current students questions about campus and petra, environment, etc during the student-run social. As for faculty during the actual formal interview, should I ask questions about internships, where students end up, PI's studies, etc? Thanks so much again!
