  1. Hi y'all Figured I'd post in here since I know I'm overreacting but still want to get this off my chest I will be on crutches for one of my interviews I am planning on attending the pre-interview social and the post-interview happy hour as well, and I'm worried about sticking out like a sore thumb or not being able to walk around/mingle due to this, and consequently making a bad impression. I am hoping and praying it doesn't hider me through the interview! I already know this sounds crazy, but I just needed to get it off my chest. This will probably be one of the only schools I get an interview at, so I'm really hoping to make the best impression possible!
  2. Hi everyone! i kind of wanted to start a thread where current grad students or those who have gone through the interview process before give us first-rounds some tips for interviews! Can be things like -what to expect (general questions, etc) -how to prepare -do's and dont's etc! Anything you find helpful. If there is already a thread for this, you can also post it. I just wans't able to find one. I know personally I am only going to get interviews at a few schools, so I want to nail it when I get the opportunity! Thanks in advance!
  3. Hi, everyone! I recently got an interview invite from one of my top choices (YAY!) In the interview invite, there was mention of a pre-interview social and a post-interview happy hour. This made me NERVOUS, as I really don't know what to expect. Could anyone who has ben through this process before give a little insight? Any tips? I am someone who feels better going into things knowing at least a bit of what to expect, so this would be most appreciated. Thanks so much everyone!
  4. I posted the wrong date for this one- my interview invite was 1/10/2020. Sorry!
  5. the "unofficial rejections" are what's killing me. I DID hear from a program I really liked yesterday with an interview invite which was some MUCH needed confidence-boost, but seeing the results page knowing all of the invites have been sent out for some of my other schools is its own form of torture
  6. School: University of Texas Southwestern (Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences) Type: Clinical Psychology PhD Date of Invite: 1/12/20 Type of Invite: Email from Admissions Chair Interview date(s): 2/15/2020
  7. I'm a first time applicant too! What I have gotten so far is I don't understand a rhyme or reason- I have had current students tell me that they didn't hear back until January, and others are hearing back early Dec. Sure makes it more anxiety-provoking though, right?
  8. Any advice for dealing with a rejection letter y'all? I just received my first one. I thought I had mentally prepared myself, but it still stings haha. Hoping for better news from some of my other places!
  9. Hi! I know I am posting this a little late, but I had similar anxieties. I had 2 W's on my transcript my freshman year due to switching my major, and I had one this past semester for a Pass/Fail course that I realized I did not need for my major or minor. I shared my anxieties with my advisor, and she said that a W looks ALOT better than a C or an F, especially since the best of the best are applying to these programs. In my case where I dropped one course due to it not having significance to my major, this is something you can explain in a personal statement or an interview. You can even ask your letter writers to throw something in there if you want. I think grad schools are alot more concerned with Personal Statements, Research experience, etc. Good luck!!
  10. Congrats on hearing back! I am hoping and praying I start hearing in the next few days. I was told by some people that invitations continue to go out through January, so I am trying not to focus too much on it. Easier said than done though, right?
  11. This makes me feel much better, thanks! 'i was kind surprised that people were getting e-mails, then my heart sank. Good to know that they send to e-mails through January! Now I have some peace of mind. I might PM you about the program if you don't mind, they're actually my top choice!
  12. I'm happy someone started this thread. I made the mistake of looking at the interview forum and my heart shattered when I saw that some of my top choices had already sent out e-mails. Sigh. I guess I'll try to distract myself better
  13. Hi, all, I am a college senior applying to PhD programs and the UChicago MAPSS Program. My end-goal is to be a clinical neuropsychologist. My interests mainly center around affective neuroscience, chronic illness/pain, neurodegeneration, stroke/TBI, and neuroplasticity. I do understand that as an undergrad applying to PhD programs, my chances of getting in are quite slim. However, I have quite a bit of research experience and internships at other schools, good GRE scores (161V 154Q 6AW), and a good GPA, as well as good LoRs, so I am hoping I get in *somewhere.* I do understand the value that an extra year of research experience could give me, which is why I am interested in MAPSS. A lot of the posts I see here about MAPSS are from Anthro, History, and PoliSci students. Has anyone done the MAPSS program with a focus in Psychology? Thoughts? Pros? Cons? My teacher went there and highly recommended it as she got into all of her PhD programs afterwards, but I would also like to hear from others. Please don't gloss anything over, tear it apart if you wish. At the end of the day, I want to make 100% sure that any program is the right fit for me, and I quite honestly have not found much information on the Psych focus in the MAPSS Program Thanks in advance!!
  14. I figured I'd reply to this thread because I, too have been religiously checking other forums to see if my schools have sent out interview invites yet. Unsurprisingly, my heart has shattered a few times, as some people have gotten interview invitations and I haven't heard anything yet. Being a neuropsychologist is my dream so I feel like every denial I'll get might shatter my heart a bit. lol. This is my first application cycle. I am still in undergrad, so I understand that my chances of getting in are *extra* slim. However, I have a lot of research experience, good GRE (161V 154Q 6W), and a good GPA, so I figured why not. I'm not too sure how to distract myself yet as grad school has taken up so much of my headspace. A question for you all: does WHEN you apply effect WHEN you'll hear back? For example, some of the people I'm reading have heard back from these schools around a week after the application deadline. I submitted my applications closer to the deadline, so will I hear back later? thanks you guys! we'll get through this!
  15. Congrats on this! Do you mind if I ask WHEN you applied, and if that has any effect on when I'll hear back? (i.e. if someone applies closer to the deadline, will they hear back later, etc?) Thanks!
  16. Congrats! This is one of my top programs. I haven't heard from them yet. Wondering if this means I got rejected, or if I just applied later
  17. Hi, Everyone!! Replying to this with a general question. I am still in Undergrad, but applied to 11 Clinical PhD programs this season as well as several Master's programs. I understand my chances of getting in as an undergrad are a LONGSHOT, but I have lots of research experience with several publications and presentations, good GRE scores, and a high GPA, so I figured why not. If the deadline for the majority of my programs was December 1st, when should I start hearing back from schools? (Example: University of Florida's deadline was November 15th, and they said I should hear back between Dec 9th-20th). Is there a specific timeline for when they review applications and start sending out invites? As I said, I know my chances of getting in are slim, but I am still hoping that I get into 1 or 2 schools. Thanks so much you guys! I am so new to all of this.
