I'm trying to remain positive as well, lol. I received the offer I plan to accept from the DGS, but the offer hasn't been uploaded to the website for me to accept yet. And now that pretty much all universities are shut down, it could be a while. My irrational fear is that the virus will ruin schools economically and my offer will be rescinded. Very unlikely, but it is hard not to worry when it comes to graduate admissions
-
Hopefully the last few decisions are sent out shortly so we can all accept an offer before these schools shut down, lol.
-
Anyone heard anything from UCLA since the first round of acceptances? I see one rejection posted and earlier this week the graduate advisor responded to an email I sent months ago about GRE scores. Other than that, radio silence.
-
Anyone claim that UCLA rejection? I checked the portal, no change.
-
I emailed the department exactly a month ago to confirm that they received my GRE scores. Lol, the director of student services responded to my email about an hour ago to tell me that they received them. But no word on a decision...

Claiming the UW rejection and UH interview that just went up
-
Yeah, there is almost no margin for error, in one of the nation's more expensive cities no less. That would give me serious pause.

Thank you all for the well-wishes. While Gradcafe can be an enormous pain in the ass at times, this community has been incredibly supportive. It reassuring to know I'm not the only that refreshes their email 342 times a day.

As it stands now im at 0a/3r/0w/7p. Tomorrow morning, my last application deadline will have passed. I'm making a call for all good vibes you guys can muster to be sent my way. I need all the help I can get. This has been a long journey for me. I dropped out of high school my sophomore year, found myself homeless till I was 18, and had to fight tooth and nail to get my GED, claw my way through community college, transfer to university, get my degree from said university, and finally, finish my masters and begin working as an adjunct. Becoming a researcher and educator has been my dream for some time, and I'm hoping I can take a step in the right direction during the cycle. Best of luck to all those waiting on a decision. Remember, you're here for a reason, you are not an imposter.

You're right, I confused them with another user. Could be a troll.
-
Naw they've been on here for a little while. He/she was helpful at first, but when sloth girl started getting accepted everywhere, a lot of people started showing their ugly sides.
-
Everyone being a salt monster towards sloth girl needs to realize that there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing everything you can to ensure that you secure a spot somewhere. She's been lurking on these forums for years gathering information in order to perfect her applications. She took the suggestions of others and it paid off. It wasn't luck or some other BS, it was hard work and perseverance. Y'all need to chill. These are personal accomplishments, they aren't about anyone else.
-
Same. I was really excited about my chances too.

If the posts are true, It seems that JHU is sending out at least a few decisions.
-
I don't think that applies here. The admissions process is so subjective. We can see applicants with 340+ GRE scores strike out at the top ten while someone with sub par GRE and GPA gets into multiple top tens. I'm not going to fault someone for trying to secure their future, regardless of wether I get in anywhere or not. Admissions is such that it now makes sense to apply to 20+ schools. 100% this. In all honesty when you're applying to these schools in an attempt to start your career, you can't really afford to worry about the side effects of where and how many places you apply to. I get that people want to blame others, but this is the name of the game.
-
I really can't fault anyone for applying to 20+ schools. I applied to ten, but easily would have done more had I thought it was a viable method. Imposter syndrome does funny things to a person. I would call them anxious or cautious, but not greedy.
-
You and me both. I would be surprised if decisions are actually being released this early. They've done late February like clock work for the last decade.
-
Just saw that a JHU acceptance was posted. Anyone claiming that? Its super early so I'm suspicious of trolling.
-
If anyone is waiting on UCSB, I sent an email inquiring about my status and was told that decisions will be released towards the end of March and that most decisions have yet to be made. They sent out a couple acceptances (maybe 3) at the end of January and they normally take on a class of 7-10 students. My guess is that those of us who have not heard back are on an unofficial waitlist. It's also possible that they're reviewing applications by subfield, but I lean towards it being a waitlist.
-
Anyone hear from Hopkins yet? It appears that they don't normally release excisions until the last week of February, but I want to make sure since it seems like many schools are deviating from their norms this year.
-
It really depends on your advisor. JHU, Chicago, Berkley, and UCLA all have options. But it'll be hard to find a department that's geared toward critical theory in general. I have interests in critical theory and struggled finding fit in some departments that only had one critical theorist, so I had to improvise a lot.

It appears that the Korbel School (Denver) has released at least one Masters decision. Idk if this means PhD decisions are soon to follow or not.
-
Super quiet today.
-
I would feel this in my soul, if I wasn’t a ginger.
