  1. Is it common for applicants to apply to 20+ schools? I just saw an NYU admit that applied to 22 schools. I applied to ten and I thought that was a lot. Lol, now I'm worried I should have applied to more.
  2. My heart goes out to whoever just posted the 0a/9r/1p status. Sending you positive vibes.
  3. After you press submit and are waiting to hear back while others are receiving acceptances, it’s really easy to find things that you may have done wrong on your application. Don’t do this until you’ve received all of your decisions or you will drive yourself mad. There’s nothing you can do about it now. That said, be confident in your strongest writing sample. The topic isn’t important, how you write and how you arrive at conclusions is. As long as long as you maintained objectivity, avoided unsubstantiated claims, and refrained from proposing a radical solution, you should be fine.
  4. Lol, never thought I’d hate weekends.
  5. I saw a university of Washington rejection was posted. Anyone else? I haven’t received an email from them, and to my knowledge acceptances haven’t gone out yet.
  6. Yeah, that got me hyped!
  7. Well, as of last fall they are the second wealthiest university in the world, so they can certainly afford it.
  8. I think this depends on the sub-field and POI of the admits that decline an offer. If said admit declines an offer and was supposed to work with one of your POI's then its likely you will be considered for admission. Thats the way it is with most schools.
  9. It kind of burns my ass that a lot of schools just change the website status for rejections and don't send an email notification. It can often hold applicants hostage, encouraging us to obsessively refresh our status pages lol.
  10. Rejections for UT Austin should be appearing on the website for those who have yet to hear back.
  11. Anyone else sometimes think that their email is broken when everyone else is getting decisions?
  12. Anyone claiming the UCSB acceptance? I haven’t heard anything. I think this is kind of early for them.
  13. haha I got that too. It freaked me out because I didn't even apply there.
  14. The UCs I applied for are UCLA and UCSB. I haven’t seen anything from either. Although UCLA did send out an email last week asking for applicants with external funding to let the department know.
  15. Same. I've been browsing but I keep talking myself out of it. Of course I don't won't to bother my letter writers, but I also don't want to go somewhere that will make my path to employment extremely difficult. Plus, I've only heard back from 1/10, so I might be jumping the gun. Its hard not to though.
  16. Lol, yup. I would, I just don't want to bother my letter writers again after having them submit letters to 10 schools. And plus, I don't really want to go to a school out of desperation if i'm not sold on the program, sounds like a recipe for disaster.
  17. I've also become resentful towards London School of Economics and Political Science because of its name, haha.
  18. Dude, tell me about it. I was fine until I got my first rejection from Rice (and likely a second from UT given that I haven't heard from them yet). Now I've gone off the deep end, obsessively refreshing the results page all but sure that I will receive ten rejections lol, even though I was expecting a rejection from Rice due to poor fit. I even considered applying to lower ranked schools with deadlines in February because of my tilt. I'm likely overreacting, but I did not anticipate the awfulness of the waiting game.
  19. Same here, not surprised since it was my worst fit by a large margin. I applied because my wife and I live in Houston. Rejection sucks, but considering the application fee was waived, it doesn't sting all that much. 9 more to go, hopefully we get some good news soon!
  20. They're sending out decisions now.
  21. Just saw the first posting about Rice - a waitlisting. Has anyone else heard anything?
  22. Welcome! Please learn from our mistakes. Good luck!
  23. Yes, they asked for anyone with outside funding to notify the grad director. Makes me think they’re tight on cash ATM.
  24. Anyone else get an email for UCLA regarding outside funding?
