Hi all! I was just wondering if anybody else comes from a non-Sociology background?

No it didn’t, I presume that comes with the email that the Graduate School send that is the final confirmation of your place. People I know within the social sciences there have previously told me it’s around $22k with TA-ship commitments. The plus side is that the department doesn’t accept anybody without funding, so it will at the very least be the minimum.

I got an email from UC Irvine confirming my acceptance from the department this evening, the official school email to follow soon. I’m sighing contently with relief now...

Honestly me too. The time difference between the schools I applied to and where I’m currently living means I end up staying up into the middle of the night every night just waiting for a what if they reply now! Could really do with channeling my panic/anxiety into a singular day!

I think Berkeley usually comes out around the 28th/30th so that’s a possibility this week. UC Riverside told me in December decisions would be released in January 2020 BUT historically they don’t usually release them until February so I don’t know what to think on that point!

Is the person that got an interview for Irvine Anthropology on here and able to give any more information? Was it a POI the email came from? What did it say?

I had my UCI 'interview' earlier today with a POI I have met in person and have a good relationship with. Very similar experience to everybody else, it was very informal and was told it was more of a 'tick box' exercise than anything else. We had a talk about the programme, but it was funny because we've previously had a long discussion about it before I applied so was difficult to say anything really new. However I did get more information on the ins-and-outs of the whole PhD program across the years which was useful as it's different from what I'm used to. I really hope we hear back soon from them, I've been a nervous wreck since November about this program!

Does anybody know what universities do visit weekends either for interview or accepted students? I just need to calculate my potential leave for my employer if I were to be offered the chance to visit these places. Specifically I’m asking about Berkeley and UC Riverside and UC Irvine (but I believe they have an accepted students weekend in March but somebody else might have a better idea)

Ah I’m an international student too (I have my ‘interview’ scheduled for Wednesday as I only just got the email today). Did he say whether those 4 students had been picked already or would be whittled down after the interview stage?

Me too! I just realised in MLK day on Monday and so probably if we hear nothing in the next few hours from programmes we’ll have to wait until Tuesday...

I’m taking it as a good sign that nobody’s posted anything from Irvine yet. Their website does say they’ll give out decisions by the end of February 2020 though although historically decisions are out by now. I’m just so panicky about it as Irvine is my by far my first choice!

This seems really helpful. UC Irvine usually have an interview weekend the last weekend of January/start of Februrary but nobody seems to have posted any invitations on the results pages. Would be interested if anybody does/has hear/d back from them?

I feel the exact same way. I really wish I hadn't looked up when decisions had historically come out because now I'm freaking out I haven't gotten in/gotten interviews for a few places as they've historically been given out by now although nobody's posted them on the results page and it's just messing me up!.

Has anybody heard from UC Irvine ? They usually have an interview/visit weekend and was wondering if anybody had heard anything yet?
