  1. Which scholarship did you apply for? Congratulations!! I believe from other posts here you have to wait for the formal email / message notification and paperwork, but I would advise emailing your local DAAD office.
  2. Congratulations! That’s so well done! What are you studying? Have they let you know any more beyond being awarded?
  3. I haven’t done it, but if I were you just to be sure you could take a photo of your signature and copy and paste it into the document if it’s a PDF, or sign and scan. Some places can be rightfully not ok with you just typing your full name out.
  4. I messaged the Portal regarding when Asia Pacific Masters candidates might here something, and this was the reply
  5. I've got it as well - not sure if its an automated thing if nothing has happened on either end? Curious and curiouser
  6. Oh thats wonderful! Congratulations - I'm so glad! it's quite funny to see us all panicking on here, and how happy people are when it gets confirmed ?
  7. I don’t think it can be although not positive as to EPOS. What usually happens with the more general scholarships is that the DAAD office you applied to will recommend a particular language course length, but I’m not sure as to EPOS specifically. I would email your DAAD contact office or the University who submitted you for EPOS, but there would probably have to be specific reasons as to why because of the way the budget is allocated. edit : after looking at this https://www2.daad.de/downloads/foerderprogramm/file.php?id=5295 - every German course is pretty much 2 months unless otherwise specified.
  8. That’s great! Congratulations! Which / what type of scholarship was it? Such as EPOS etc? And have they told you about the language lessons?
  9. Ugh bit of a nightmare! Not anyone’s fault but just an absolute pain... don’t even know what to do with myself to be honest. Oh well
  10. It’s Monday, which means we all get to start the weekly fiasco of refreshing the DAAD portal, and checking our emails like mad people for news. Good luck for this week everyone, and don’t forget to update us all as to news and your region!
  11. I haven’t found out yet! If I am successful though I do want to move there as soon as possible - I’ve already been learning German for over six months here. The visa situation is also relatively easy - I do hope they are able to move quickly with yours!
  12. Congratulations times a million Simo! Brilliant job! So excited - will you be off to Germany then / doing a language course?
  13. Hi greta - just wondering if you know why they picked Dusseldorf?
  14. Update that I talked to my nearby DAAD office, and they're thinking it'll be March. Last time they communicated with Bonn they weren't done deciding. Oh well
  15. I would take it 'with a pinch of salt' so to speak. Mine changed ages ago and honestly I don't think its worth getting too hyped anyway unless we know for sure - it'll be incredibly disappointing otherwise.
  16. I believe it theoretically means that if you got it, the DAAD would have to approve it’s renewal each year. For eg, if you seem to be mucking around/not using the money properly, they’ll revoke funding. If you’re doing well, it renews.
  17. umm 1 Oct this year to 30 Sept 2022 for a Masters
  18. This is the first time I applied - my dates just changed months ago for DAAD reasons
  19. Sometimes they get modified if they don't like how it lines up - mine changed ages ago for same reason
  20. Oh this is confusing... kind of hoping I'll find out soon then, although I fall under Asia-Pacific - but our application date was September. Hope it went well for your friends!!
  21. My DAAD Interview Experience (Nov 2019, Sydney DAAD) I live in Perth (Australia) and had to fly to Sydney for my interview since our DAAD office was told they were not allowed to conduct Skype ones - it may be different for other countries. I was told the typical interview is around 10-15 minutes - I arrived early so got to see the process seems to be little debrief as to who they are going to see, candidate goes in, discussion, candidate goes out, and they have a private talk all together. My interview was 20 minutes (Masters scholarship), and the man before me was around 10 (PhD visiting year). I was seen by 8 people, one from Bonn, one from the DAAD HQ in Sydney, and the other six were Humanities and Sciences scholars who were originally German but seemed to be working in the Eastern Australian States at the time. I won't specifically recall questions I was asked because it's no use really rehearsing as such, but the general topics discussed were What I had recently worked on, academically - so my field and what I want to do with it My attitude to Germany - why that country, why those universities (be very very honest as to the whole 'free' education thing - they can smell a rat) How I felt about big / small cities and languages What I planned to research and what I was open about My future plans My motivations as a person for study, career and research (these were personal to my family and myself, so it helps to show who you are when they ask questions like this. Less of a dramatic narrative than little markers of your personality) I've heard nothing yet, since we have to wait until late Jan / Feb to hear in Aus, but I think what worked was that I tried to be as honest as possible. I dressed comfortably and empowered, however silly that sounds, and used silly things I do to my advantage. For example, I have a habit of making snarky jokes when I'm panicking, so I let them out when they were appropriate to relieve the tension in the room and show that I'm half rate kind of funny - which they would remember! From chatting to Germans on reddit and people who have been in their academic sphere, the key pointers are No over buttering / being too nice - they like being straight to the point. Remember you've worked hard to apply, and that takes a lot of courage - so you appreciate the opportunity, but you're not beyond belief grateful Honesty, honesty, honesty - I admitted that I hadn't looked up or couldn't remember looking up something I should. I knew they would've known if I lied This is all I can think of that would be significant, but please feel free to ask any other questions you might have and I'll try to answer them! Let the best parts of you shine - viel spaß und viel Glück!
  22. Pretty sure everyone is - the Portal mentioned staff shortages and Germany is very bureaucratic so not surprised. Still incredibly stressful and I’m sweating everytime i open an email. Plus it’s regionally managed i think.
  23. I can, but only if people will give specific questions (because obvs Facebook is personal and I don’t want to get nagged)
