  1. One of the NPSIA profs told me a couple months ago that pretty much everyone accepted in the first round gets some amount of funding. But yeah, also looking forward to the official offer with the funding package.
  2. Just got the email! Wooooo! Oh dang! The bigger news for me today is that I just reached the "Caffeinated" rank on this forum! ?
  3. @schneebz You're right. Looking back, the two "review" stages were phrased differently. I definitely conflated the two, hence the confusion of being "back to the review stage" @MA_more_like_no_way Okay, so your other application followed the stages listed on Carleton's application status info page (https://graduate.carleton.ca/application-status/). Weird!
  4. Seems like it. At least, that's been the trajectory for a number of us so far.
  5. Ha. Gotcha. My above two "likes" are solidarity-likes for a fellow "review in progress" purgatory dweller.
  6. Is that on Carleton360, or in Carleton Central? Mine still says "Preliminary Review Required" on Carleton360, but when I go into Carleton Central, it shows "review in progress by department"
  7. Fingers crossed for some news tomorrow for those of us still stuck in our various levels of limbo!
  8. YO! Congrats! Which specialization did you go with? Also, I'm assuming that's good news for @Lb1196, too, given their most recent update.
  9. I just checked Carleton Central, and I'm no longer "recommended for assessment." Now on "Review in progress by department."
  10. It looks like ~100 students graduate the program every year, so I suppose intake would be at least 100/year.
  11. Not sure. Based on previous years, it looks like there's usually an initial round of offers right around the end of February/beginning of March, and a later slow trickle of offers that can last into May/June, and is based on the number of spaces still available and the number of admission offers that get declined by applicants.
  12. Looking at last year's NPSIA/GSPIA thread, it looks like there's a good chance you'll get some news soon!
  13. Does it show as "Review in progress by Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs"?
  14. There are two reviews that get done. The first one (the stage you're at) is the review by the department itself. If you make it past that preliminary review, they kick your application up to the faculty of grad affairs, who do a more thorough review. When your application reaches that stage, you'll get the "recommended for assessment" status that a number of us have been kvetching about. Some applicants have been stuck there for about a month, which makes sense, as it's a bottleneck in the process (since presumably all of the grad applications to Carleton have to go through the grad faculty). Basically, this is the first point at which anyone at Carleton is getting a chance to look at your application.
  15. Can't answer for fall/winter classes, but I took the 1.0 credit ECON 1000 class (which has since been split into the 0.5 credit ECON 1001 and 1002) a couple summers ago while working full time and doing other classes. It was super easy.
  16. Ooh, and this document weighs the benefits of the coursework, research paper, and thesis options: https://carleton.ca/npsia/wp-content/uploads/program-comp-guide-19.pdf
  17. The NPSIA thesis guidelines look a little different: https://carleton.ca/npsia/wp-content/uploads/degree-by-research-essay-2017.pdf For instance, it shows thesis length as 100-160 pages, rather than the 80-100 in the PoliSci program. That said, it's possible that the document I linked is out of date now, given that it's from 2017. EDIT: This page is a pretty solid resource: https://carleton.ca/npsia/current-students-2/current-ma-ma-jd-students/guidelines-and-forms/
  18. I figure I'll drop to part-time work at my gov't job, full-time school if I get in. I'm doing both full-time right now, and it's just a bit too much. I'm in an indeterminate position, so I definitely don't want to quit outright. FWIW, doing a research paper instead of an MA isn't likely to be a big impediment for doing a PhD further down the road (at least, that's what the NPSIA MA director told me...)
  19. I submitted my application on Jan 24, and the status changed from "Preliminary review required" to "review in progress" and then on to "recommended for assessment" on Feb 6. But I think you're right... the later the application was submitted, the longer it'll likely take for them to get to it, as I have a feeling a lot of people finalized their submissions on the 31st.
  20. I applied to Carleton's MA in International Affairs (NPSIA). Little news so far... I got through the preliminary review by the department, and now my status is stuck at "recommended for assessment" until my application gets reviewed by the faculty of graduate affairs.
  21. Congrats! Welcome to the next part of the wait. I've been stuck at "recommended for assessment" since the 5th, and I'm getting really antsy. I'm curious as to whether @Lb1196's application has progressed, or if they're still at the same point in the process.
