Thanks for your reply! I'm thinking about political economy and social policy. There are two professors there who are the top of the field.. comparing it to UPenn.

Wanted to hear what your thoughts are on the rep of MIT's poli sci? I have seen it ranked as both top 10 as well as > 20.

Does anyone know when Harvard and Yale are sending out decisions? I know they will be rejections but am just waiting for the assurance of being done with this round.

Well I think in my case prior contact with faculty had a big importance, and the fact that they might have been familiar with some of the people who wrote my LORs. Also, it really helps to talk with current students who can shed light on the department and relevant faculty members you might have missed out (you're welcome to make contact with me next year). I think for every program - the more inside knowledge the better. I will say though that as time goes by I am increasingly unsure of JSP's positioning for later placement - I think that for people with a law undergraduate degree/JD perhaps going to a disciplinary program might be even more advantageous.

Pushiness is a virtue in academic life kidding - I think it's totally fine. Another option would be to call them (in which case they probably won't ask for your name)
