  1. Have people started making their final decisions? I think I've settled on the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke! I hope everyone is happy with the outcome of their applications - it's been so nice to share this process with a forum of likeminded folks!! ?
  2. Got one as well! Looks like Duke will be a financially realistic option! It's strange to be feeling relief during such a stressful l time. Bren is still slightly more affordable since it's a public university. Does anyone know if it's appropriate to negotiate a small increase in aid? I really don't want to seem ungrateful, but grad school is such a huge investment!
  3. Bad news, everyone. I called up Duke again and they are sending an email later today cancelling Admitted Students weekend. Classes are virtual for the rest of the semester as well. I was looking forward to seeing the campus and meeting some of you! Hopefully we'll cross paths in the Fall (wherever we all end up...)
  4. I called them today because I was worried about it! They said that (at the moment) there are no plans to cancel it. She seemed pretty relaxed on the phone, so fingers crossed!
  5. That's really frustrating! Honestly, at this point I would call up admissions and confirm that they properly sent your admissions result. It's pretty close to admitted students weekend, so they should have finished sending everything out. Good luck!
  6. I got an email the day after my acceptance with a financial aid award! They were a lot more generous than expected, so hopefully you also get good news! It's also nice because you can pay in-state tuition the second year, which really helps.
  7. Check out the 2019 thread on this topic! Looks like Duke's financial aid came out March 15th. I think it might be a couple days later this year since decisions came out later. But I know what you mean! I feel like I'm holding my breath until I know the financial reality of grad school...
  8. Thank you!! It was a nice surprise! It seems like everyone following this forum has gotten some good news, which is really great! Go us ? I hope that you and everyone else waiting on Bren hears back today! The notification I got said that they were hoping to send out official emails today or early next week.
  9. Bren sent out their results earlier today! Good luck to anyone who applied! There was no financial aid info on my acceptance, but maybe it comes out later?
  10. I'm honestly not sure... I know that a lot of Michigan's aid comes in the form of graduate assistantships (where they fully waive tuition for the semester and also give you a stipend and health insurance), but I've heard they are pretty competitive and generally awarded to second year grad students. But you should definitely give the school a call! They've always been really helpful whenever I've called with a question. Good luck with your decision process!
  11. What is your specialization? I was admitted for Sustainable Systems and did not receive an advisor. But I called up admissions and they said that Sustainable Systems only assigns advisors once students officially accept their offers to SEAS. I also asked about merit funding and it sounds like there is still a small amount which faculty give out during visitor days, but that most was already out (though I would guess there might be a few additional grants given once people start making their decisions and some decide not to attend SEAS). Looking forward to seeing the campuses and some of you at Duke and Michigan's accepted students weekends!
  12. Fingers crossed that most of us hear back early next week! I was definitely bummed when Friday afternoon rolled around without any emails (despite refreshing my inbox about 700 times rip). It’s President’s Day on Monday, so I’m hoping either Duke or Michigan makes my Tuesday...
  13. Interesting - maybe they had a larger number of applicants this year... Hopefully results will come before the end of February, but I guess we'll have to wait and see!
  14. I hope so! The sense I got from talking to admissions counselors and reviewing past results is that we should hear back from SEAS and NSOE this week. Can't stop refreshing my email! ?
