  1. Different programs run on different timelines, so there's really no way to tell unless you see other people getting interviews and responses or unless you ask, unfortunately. You may or may not get a response back if you ask, but it seems like a polite email to the department asking about the timeline doesn't hurt unless the school specifies not to inquire.
  2. I was sleepy when I replied and forgot to say congrats too! Did you apply for Fafsa? It sounds like the cost would be up to you and loans or any outside scholarships you apply to and can get. I would definitely try to confirm with them that this is the case and also ask how likely it is to get the TAships in the second year, like how many positions there are available compared to how many students in your cohort.
  3. Congrats on the acceptances! My top factors are going to come down to aid, faculty, location, TAships. I would ask if you could speak with faculty and current students at the schools you're considering. It'll help a lot to get to know them outside of the interview. I'd ask about setting up a call or zoom meeting with a couple of them at least.
  4. Definitely talk with them and get a clear understanding of the cost before you commit.
  5. I'm sorry to hear it, same here though!
  6. Good luck!! Yeah, I think it's the calm before the storm for a lot of us. ??
  7. I'm not sure what to think about this exactly myself, but have you had a chance to talk with any of the professors from either school besides during your interviews? I think talking with them and seeing if you click and feel comfortable is really important too, maybe moreso than liking their work exactly. I think what I try to see is if I like their thinking or the themes they're working with and the manner in which they talk about art (or anything else too), even if their work isn't my favorite or doesn't necessarily seem related to mine in obvious ways. I'd also consider where you'd like your connections to be. Do you want more ties to people in Colorado or to Montana?
  8. Oh dang, that's exciting! I had a really positive interview experience, but not quite that positive, haha.
  9. Hey there! Can I ask how/when you received the unofficial acceptance from CCA? Congrats on that and your interviews and good luck on the ones you're waiting on!
  10. I'll add that I have sent a lot of emails to schools that have gotten no response, too! :') So it's not just you, at least! I just think it's a busy time of year.
  11. Who did you send the email to? Was it the department contact or one of the professors? Sometimes emails get lost or they just don't have an answer for you yet, but if you don't know anyone from the design department who has gotten an invitation, it may be that they're still working on it. Originally they said that their timeline would be early March, but for painting it was earlier, so I don't know if that means it was earlier for everyone. The way I see it, is that emailing them to check isn't going to make a difference in their decision making, so I just try to be patient usually. Some schools don't mind it, but some get kind of annoyed about it and ask that no one contact them about it. I don't think UW is one of those schools, so I think it's fine if you check in once more, politely, but I probably wouldn't again after that. Good luck with everything!
  12. Sorry to hear that! Yeah, you really never know. My interview with them felt a little off, despite them saying some positive things about my work, so I'm not super surprised for myself. I think, too, with only interviewing with 2 out of so many faculty, part of it can really depend on who you end up interviewing with and who is pushy about who getting in. There are a lot of factors. It does make me nervous about other places, though. They're the first I've heard from post-interview.
  13. Nothing from UC Irvine yet, but I expect we'll hear soon. I think some schools having been saying by the beginning of March, but idk about them.
  14. Sorry to hear it! If you wanna chat about it or the interview, feel free to message.
  15. Just received a rejection from SAIC painting and drawing after interview, so those are going out.
  16. Congrats! And I'd ask for an extension if you are interested in going there, but your choice may be different depending on what happens with the rest of your interviews.
  17. My interview was the same, except they had me show a few pieces instead of one, like I expected. Not sure what that means. Congrats on your UCLA acceptance btw!!
  18. Oh my gosh, I'm sorry that happened! That's so weird. I've never heard of on the spot phone interviews like that.
  19. Hi friends, I just did my UW Interview with Painting and Drawing and thought I would share how it went in case that could help anyone. It was with all 6 faculty members and lasted 15 minutes. They each asked a question. I was asked why UW and why specifically painting and drawing, what is it about painting that makes me return to it and makes me want to engage with it specifically, what I learned in or took from undergrad, how important it is to look at work in museums or galleries and what work I've been looking at, how I've engaged with looking at work during the pandemic, and where I see my work going. They didn't talk or ask about my portfolio work or statement at all, but they did ask a couple of follow up questions based on my answers to their questions.
  20. It took me a while to get to those questions and a lot of asking a ton of other people, I was so lost about what to ask at first and afraid I'd ask something that seemed trivial or that was easily found on their websites. ?
  21. I've started asking if they could tell me a bit about their philosophy on critique and it seems like it goes over well usually. I've gotten some really thoughtful answers back. I've also asked what they feel is a unique attribute of their program that they would want to take advantage of if they were a student there. Good luck with your interview!
  22. Yeah, of course! Feel free to DM me with it whenever.
  23. Ahh okay, yeah, those are some of the most competitive schools, so I think a good amount of people that end up going to them apply more than once from what I've seen. I think that working in watercolor could definitely be a benefit, rather than a drawback, depending on what you're doing. Going larger could help. But there is merit to small works as well. But making work for yourself sounds like the most important part. Good luck with everything and I hope you find joy in the making. ♡
  24. It's def not out of the ordinary. Applying is a weird process and there are a ton of factors that go into decisions. Definitely apply again next year if it doesn't work out this time. If you want someone to look over your materials, I'd be happy to let you know what I think might help, but it could have just been bad luck with time/place this round. Where all did you apply?
  25. Good luck with all of it, the funding game is not a fun one to have to navigate, that's for sure. Sorry about UCSD, but it sounds like whatever happens you have some clear goals set out and that SDSU would be a great option for you if it doesn't work out with USC this year. I think the pandemic has definitely taken a toll on all of us in some way, so it's okay to feel down for a while. Maybe something new will come from it.
