  1. Sorry to hear that @TinCanBaby, at least they got back to you fairly early. But it's still pretty early in the season, so fingers crossed you hear good news soon! And @VMark this may be because some programs separate their applicants into tracks. So bioanth applicants may be on a different schedule than soc/linganth applicants, for example.
  2. I got an interview invitation from Michigan on Friday. We were required to fill out a form indicating our availability, but I haven't heard from them since.
  3. Hi @Kankabatir_tirey, I remember you from last cycle! I also struck out last time, so I'm hoping things are better for the both of us this time around. To be honest, what I've heard from my mentors is that it's very rare that an admissions committee/PI reads your writing sample all the way through, because of the sheer number of applications they have to read. It's more of a rough skim so they can get a general idea of your ability to articulate your research in a cogent manner. So I think you should be good
  4. Hello everyone! I applied to UToronto, Stanford, UMich, Chicago, Columbia, and Cornell this cycle on the sociocultural/ling anth track. Keeping my fingers crossed that we all hear good news soon!
  5. Hey, I got waitlisted at two universities. I'm not super clear on the process, but feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to tell you what I know.
  6. I also have not heard anything, but I'm not sure if interviews are offered on a rolling basis.
  7. Also waiting on UCLA. The email sent in January said that decisions aren't sent simultaneously
  8. wow, I had no idea about this. this is really disappointing.
  9. Harvard technically doesn't require interviews for admission, but may interview some finalists. That's not the clearest explanation, but it may explain why there have been no posts about interviews.
  10. Here's my update: Rejected from UCSB, Cornell, and Brown. Waitlisted at Minnesota and UChicago. And waiting to hear back from everything else.
  11. Congratulations on your acceptance! I also applied to Columbia, NYU, and UPenn, and I haven't heard anything. I think someone higher up in the thread said that Columbia would be reviewing applications until the third week of February.
  12. Claiming a rejection from Brown. Disappointed, but not entirely surprised.
  13. Has anyone heard from Brown? I saw that someone posted an acceptance on gradcafe.
  14. Hi everyone, I'm not applying to PhDs in Political Science, but as I'm currently affiliated with CIR at Chicago, I wanted to echo what @jjiffy and @pbspoon said about CIR and MACSS if you're interested in getting more data/stats training. The latitude for methodology under these programs is very broad, and if you want more training in data analytics/stats/formal modeling you can definitely get it here. Unlike most master's programs, you're able to take classes with PhD students, which was vital for developing my own research. I would also add that CIR has a PhD bootcamp for current students and alumni, which I found to be very helpful. Finally, I wanted to share that someone I know was accepted to UChicago (I believe in CP) yesterday. I hope this helps clarify some confusion people have. I wish you all the best of luck with this application season! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!
  15. I applied to Columbia (sociocultural) and I haven't heard anything. I'm not even sure if they do interviews, but I'll be sure to keep the forum posted.
  16. I'm glad everything worked out! Best of luck to you!
  17. When I spoke with them, they tentatively said we would hear back in a couple weeks. In previous years, UChicago sent out decisions in mid-February.
  18. It could be a mistake on their end, but I don't think it would hurt to email the grad admissions assistant to check if your application is being considered under sociocultural. Generally, the admissions committee should be able to figure out your track based on your SOP and letters of recommendation, so I wouldn't worry too much!
  19. I'm an American applicant in sociocultural, and I haven't heard anything. Not sure if they've sent out all interview invites already.
  20. Thank you! I was solely contacted via email. Two faculty members from the department contacted me to set up a time to speak this week. I also recieved an email notification to check my application portal, where I had to fill out an RSVP form for interviews. So it was like a dual system. The status update on the portal said that faculty would schedule interviews between the 25th and the 28th, which is what happened. I'm not sure if this is for all tracks though (I'm sociocultural). Thank you! It went pretty well! They felt more like conversations with the professor, like office hours, than actual interviews. Much more relaxed than my previous interview
  21. I also haven't heard anything from Berkeley or UCLA, and I'm sociocultural. Keeping my fingers crossed!
  22. Congratulations on your interview! I hope it went well. And thank you for letting us know.
  23. I have an interview with UChicago this week, but I was directly contacted by a POI, so things could be staggered. Don't lose hope!
  24. I think it depends on who is doing the interviewing. For example, I know that UChicago arranges interviews through POIs, so it's up to the POI to contact shortlisted students. Some may be faster at doing this than others. On the other hand, I was contacted for my Minnesota interview directly by the department, so I imagine that the interview requests would have been sent out fairly close to each other. And I'm sociocultural too. Good luck to you too!
  25. Writing to claim both a UCSB and Cornell rejection. I also had an interview with Minnesota a couple of weeks ago. I applied in sociocultural. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone that we all hear some good news soon!
