so i currently only have unfunded offers for a phd. it could "change " by the end of april...hopefully. idk what to do.. take an unfunded offer for a year, take some classes, then reapply with the new classes, more experience, and a better writing sample? I'm writing my thesis now, so I know that will be better than what I applied with this year. or just hope to find some job that will make me more competitive and reapply next year (with a better writing sample) ? i don't really know what would help my CV during the year besides staying in school...? has anyone transferred programs? howd that go? any advice is welcome.. thank you!

what do you mean there are no jobs in lang doc left? why do you specifically say lang doc, i thought basically no jobs in the field in general, do you mean some kind of job outside of academia?

Hey there! I'm currently pursuing some options regarding linguistics outside of academia. I applied to PhDs for Fall 2020 but if I don't get accepted/funded anywhere I'd like to start thinking of backup plans that stay in the field. I have a BA and MA in Linguistics. I don't want all my years of schooling and coursework in Linguistics to go to waste! Just wondering if anyone has first-hand experience using formal linguistics outside of academia... I know comp ling is a huge field, but not really my thing. Thanks!
