  1. Plenty of successful artists right now that didn't go to Yale for grad school. Don't let this article, that I'm not discrediting at all, be a vector for success. There's also plenty of artists that have went to Yale and didn't get a "taste of the kingdom" upon exiting. It's all a crap shoot.
  2. Have any painting folks that interviewed with Tyler a few weeks back heard anything since?
  3. I turned down RISD last year. It hurt at first, but I knew deep down that I didn’t really want to go there. I did the private art school thing once, and I really wasn’t interested in doing it again. I also didn’t appreciate how their financial aid office treated me throughout the process of asking for funding. That’s a whole different story though. I feel a lot better this time around. I applied to programs that felt like a better fit. My portfolio and statements are way more solid than last year. The stock advice is to not worry about finances until after acceptance. I guess just bank on the ones that offer you the most money? If a school really wants you, they’ll do everything they can to finance you.
  4. probably won't hear from UCLA until end of the month - if anyone here gets accepted and shares that information. Rejection letters went out mid-March last year
  5. Just received invitation from Boston University for painting.
  6. also for anyone wondering... VCU painting interview invites went out this morning. Still waiting to hear from some other schools. Anyone get anything from U Washington or Boston U yet?
  7. Really? I was able to make a TUportal account - application status hasn't changed since my interview - but I also contacted someone at the help desk about this. Whoops!
  8. How were you notified of your rejection from UCSD? I also applied there but haven't heard anything at all yet. Wondering if maybe rejection letters went out before interview requests. I also applied to U Irvine
  9. My friend had an interview with them last week. So I'm assuming all interview requests have gone out.
  10. also applied and am wondering about that.
  11. Can anyone speak towards whether or not CalArts or ArtCenter offer any kind of funding to make their programs affordable?
  12. Hi there. I'm also applying to international schools. Most in the UK. I can't find anything on Staedelschule website on how to apply/application details. Was wanting to apply there as well. Does the uni in Barcelona conduct classes in English that you're aware of?
  13. funny you say that, because i feel like UCSD's website is pretty opaque and hard to navigate.
  14. Anyone thinking of applying international? What schools have you considered?
  15. That was my understanding as well, but according to the painting department head for the graduate program, the painting department was not offered the society of presidential fellows award to give out/nominate this year. Which would have been great to know prior to applying and flying out there to do an interview. And I just double checked now to confirm. Maybe the full-ride scholarship was open at one point, prior to the grad committee selecting their 10 applicants, but right now it is not available. Is it more difficult to get accepted into a fully-funded university program than it is a "top-tier" astronomically expensive private art school program?
  16. Also got rejected from UCLA... out of the six painting programs I applied to, RISD is the only one I got accepted into. And i only applied there hoping I would be one of the lucky candidates nominated for a full-ride scholarship this year, which apparently painting people are not eligible for. So unfortunately, I probably won't end up going, which may seem ridiculous to some, but I personally cannot justify spending that amount of money to go back to school. I went into this process telling myself I would only go to grad school if it didn't cost me anything. I recently had my undergrad student loans permanently discharged, due to me being disabled, and taking on student debt again just isn't an option. That being said, I feel pretty beaten down and burnt out after all of this. People keep saying "there's always next year" but that's not reassuring enough. I feel like I did my research and applied to all the schools that felt like good fits, and that I really wanted to go to. I can't imagine what a "next year" even looks like in terms of having to reapply. Then again, I also can't fathom staying where I am one more year without completely losing my sanity. Not sure where I'm going with this. If anyone has any insight, advice, or thoughts in general to share, that would be great. Congrats to all
  17. nope. I got a call directly from the head of the graduate committee. they might not have put me in touch with a student, maybe because I already have a friend who goes there, that I mentioned during my interview.
  18. interview request via email. they called me via phone to let me know that i was accepted.
  19. I've applied to six painting MFA programs. Here's an update on my situation for anyone interested/needing info: RISD - interviewed on Feb 25, accepted on Feb 27th University of Texas Austin - interviewed three weeks ago, rejected via email last week University of Oregon Eugene - interviewed two weeks ago, rejected via email just now University of Washington Seattle - nothing, and am assuming rejection at this point Southern Methodist University Dallas - nothing (has anyone else applied to this program or heard back?) UCLA - nothing (has anyone heard anything regarding the painting department?.. my status on the portal says nothing has been decided yet on my application, and that decisions won't be made until March or April...)
  20. Has anyone heard back from University of Oregon, University of Washington Seattle, or SMU Meadows? Other schools I applied to are UT Austin (already had my interview and am awaiting response), RISD (interview later this month), and UCLA (which apparently no one has heard back from, from what I've read)
