Berkeley GSPP Strengths/Weaknesses

Okay, I'm too neurotic. But in my defense, if I don't get funding, I'm going to have a big decision to make. -
Berkeley GSPP Strengths/Weaknesses

If I receive my Berkeley letter, should I open it tonight? I have a date, and I'm really worried that I'll only be able to think about the decision (especially funding!) and come off as totally neurotic and aloof--which is wont to happen even when I don't have something important on my mind. Oye. -

Are you going to attend the visit day? Does it seem like the visit is only for merit scholars? I'm really curious to find out if they have a visit day for those who do not receive a merit scholarship (since the website says they are only given to 25% of admitted students). -
Hahaha. Okay, you are vindicated.

I prefer uninformed speculation.

I believe we reached some sort of board consensus that notifications will go out by next Friday, the 13th.

Thanks! Good luck! Let me know when you hear something. What was your main incentive for applying? Proximity? -

That was me. I tried to announce it sneakily in my signature. I actually hadn't been thinking about the program too much and applied mainly because the school is about 3 miles away from my apartment and the the program is well ranked by US News. The school has a good urban planning program, and it seems that the policy track is geared toward urban policy and economic development. It also seems as though the career center places most graduates as policy analysts in local city governments, but I can't find a full breakdown of employment statistics. Does anyone else know much about this program? Sell me! -
I almost exclusively applied to places I wouldn't mind working and living after graduation. I ended up putting West Coast, DC and NY, but it really depends where I decide to attend. I would love to work and live in the SF Bay Area (and would do so if I go to Berkeley. That said, I could also see myself in LA, DC or NY.

Someone posted a rejection from GSPP (MPP) on the results page. Is it real? Can anyone claim it? -
Poll: What Work Experience Do You Have?

Financial regulation, probably the surest bet for a growth industry over the next few years. At least you'll have something to fall back on if the job market still looks grim in 2011. -
Georgetown Strengths/Weaknesses

Anxious postings? Why would anyone worry themselves over such a trifling matter? Ah...spreadsheets. They're my Xanax. While you guys are waiting, you should use Georgetown's acceptance rate, yield, and the 35%-40% figure they say they're able to fund and figure out what the odds are of getting money. If I'm bored later, I might just do this myself... -

I think keeping it short is good, especially since the SOP requirement was only 2 pages. For what it's worth, mine was about a page and a half. -

Where Do You Want To Work After Graduation?
policy_applicant replied to mpp_hopeful's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I put think tank/research and consulting. I also put academia/further ed, since I may try to get my PhD--probably to go into a think thank/research career. I may have to rethink the whole consulting thing, though, after checking out some of the websites. They're all written entirely in jargon/businessese. It's pretty bad. -

It's okay, linden, you can say you got more than the rest of us did. I'm with you on the debt thing. I made a spreadsheet yesterday with the Georgetown tuition/fees/cost of living minus the scholarship and my savings. Needless to say, the number is pretty daunting. -
Georgetown Strengths/Weaknesses

Well, people, it looks like scholarship emails are finally going out. I got $12,000/year, which works out to about 36% of tuition. That makes Georgetown at least financially competitive, but still pretty expensive. Something also tells me the offer's not quite as good as the one linden netted from an unnamed competitor. Did anyone else receive an email? -
It's only a matter of time before I pass you in total posts as well.
