  1. Hi, fellow speechies! Will anyone else be attending this program? I am desperately looking to connect will others who will be, since I can't seem to find a facebook group right now and there hasn't been an info session or anything! I need to reassure myself that there will be other people in my cohort!
  2. It is okay to be disappionted about not getting in- especially when you worked as hard as you did! I would take the time to allow yourself to feel upset, angry, or any other emotion: they are all valid. Try to take comfort in knowing that you are not alone and you are joining the ranks of many others who didn't get in as well (and totally deserved to). Graduate school is really stressful and you could try viewing this next year as an unexpected year of growth and self exploration, a time to just sit back and enjoy the phase of life you are on for awhile longer before the beginning the struggle of being a grad student. Also, COVID19 is going to affect a of programs and acceptees this next year (classes could remain online, prices may go up, etc.) so maybe it is a blessing to have circumvented going back to school during this messy time. You don't have to jump into figuring out where to apply/how to improve your application for the next cycle just yet- instead, just allow yourself to feel whatever you are feeling and try to find the positives to next year not going as planned! It sounds like you worked super hard and I hope that you will get in next cycle, wherever that may be!!
  3. Hey, everyone, I am hoping to connect with others who are in a similar situation as I am. Western has been my top program for over a year now and I was notified of my admission with funding on March 10th(!). I have emailed and called Dr. Rice several times since I was accepted with some questions that I have about the program/my assistantship offer and I have yet to hear back from her. So far there has been no talk of an online info session and I am getting increasingly nervous about the prospect of accepting the offer with no information about the program (or assistantship) whatsoever. I know that the school has transitioned to remote learning and I assume that the COVID19 outbreak has made the department incredibly busy, but at this point I have emailed and called both the program and the graduate school and recieved no response back over the course of 3 weeks. I have also search facebook for a facebook group of admitted students but found none so far. Does anyone know what's going on? Is anyone else in the same boat as me? Should I just wait it out? I have other offers of admission with funding from other schools that I have yet to turn down because of the situation I'm in with Western, and I know that every day that goes by that I hold these spots I am potentially taking them someone else on the waiting list for these schools. Any advice or information from anyone in my situation would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance for your help!
