  1. Hi all! Unfortunately this round of applications wasn't in my favor, so I plan to take the rest of the year to strengthen my application. One avenue I was thinking of taking would be retaking some CSD courses (mainly neuroscience and phonetics) because they were my weak points in undergrad CSD courses, along with some general requirement courses (physics). I've seen many people highly recommend schools such as ENMU for leveling courses, but I've also noticed that some say they're receiving a second CSD BA. Would anyone who has more knowledge of this be able to enlighten me before I go all in? I'm also curious if you've gone this route to strengthen your app, how did it work out for you? Is it worth doing? Any advice is greatly appreciated! I'll do just about anything to be a stronger candidate!
  2. Thank you! It's a bummer because I was set on going there, but it happens! Their turnaround time was super quick - my app went off for final review on 1/14 and I got the email on 1/18. I think I'm going to enroll in some summer classes to bring up a few less than stellar grades (chemistry and I are not friends, haha!) and apply for fall at NYU. I found on their website that the GPA cutoff is a 3.0 cumulative and 3.2 for CSD so I'm good as far as that goes! Let me know how it goes when you apply. I'm rooting for you!
  3. Hi all, Just an update - I unfortunately did not get accepted. They didn't say why, although I think it's likely due to some lower prereq grades (chemistry and bio, mainly). I'm considering applying to NYU for the fall but not totally set on it just yet. If not, I will be retaking some classes and trying again next year. As far as the interview, I can't say exactly what questions they asked me but it was very relaxed and if you know why you want to be an SLP, you'll be in good shape. It was three questions and the other two I wouldn't have been able to prepare for as they were pretty random. Good luck to you all, I wish you the best!
  4. Thank you, I hope so! I just love Emerson's program and have had such a great experience with my admissions counselor that I can't see myself going anywhere else. I hope you get some good news soon!
  5. Hi there! I'm doing okay, very nervous as I only applied to one school (kind of crazy, I know!) and am waiting to hear back as well. I work full time so that's eaten up a lot of "worry time" but I'm definitely still refreshing email obsessively. I'm mostly trying to build my confidence up as I wait and pat myself on the back for getting this far! I would recommend for anyone else in the same boat to take this time to recognize all the work you've done to get where you are, and to be proud of that regardless of the outcome. Something positive that happened to me this week was getting to see my best friend who lives a couple hours away for her birthday! I hope everyone else is doing well and I would love to hear what the process is looking like for all of you! P.S. For anyone wondering, the lone school I applied to is Emerson College for the Speech@Emerson online May 2020 cohort. Fingers crossed big time
  6. Hi there! From what I understand, as long as it's a stand-alone stats course that isn't related to CSD, it will be accepted! I'm in the process of applying to grad programs too and my advisor seemed fine with the general stats course that I took. Best of luck to you!
  7. Hi all, I just completed my application and interview for the May 2020 Speech@Emerson cohort last week. My advisor told me the turnaround time for a decision would be 3-8 weeks, however since I applied so early, it may be sooner. I'm excited because my advisor said the interview went well and everything I've submitted has looked good, but I'm a little worried because my undergrad GPA wasn't amazing. I graduated with a 3.1 cumulative, and my GRE scores were fairly average (I don't remember them off the top of my head ). I'm hoping my personal statement and interview will push the decision in my favor. Has anyone else received a decision yet? I would love to hear everyone else's experiences so far! (apologies for the double post! I found this section after my initial post in a different thread and found it to be more relevant )
