  1. So grateful to stumble across this thread and "meet" others interested in the scholarship. Do you guys reckon there's a chance they will cancel the scholarship this year given the covid situation? Wondering if after all this waiting they will just announce that they are not accepting applications this year. I am also a successful MPP applicant to HKS. Did you guys receive any financial aid? Very curious what is considered "generous" funding from HKS as I debate (like many others) deferring to next year and re-applying for aid.
  2. Thanks for taking the time to indulge my questions in such detail mc/mpa_hopeful! My apologies for taking some time to respond to you (and also to others for detracting from discussion on whether results will be announced today). Would you be able to detail some examples of incentives for EU member states to support each other through a crisis? I am very curious to know more about specific related measures that could be built into the system. I could not agree more with your thinking about the macro-level impacts to the legitimacy of the EU, particularly its unfortunate but recurring image problem. I hope that the EU takes these important learnings on board moving forward, and is able to imprint on people the importance of its existence. I feel at least for the moment, with all EU countries on emergency footing, the financial solidarity seems to be holding. I appreciate that fiscal hawks like your government (Finnish did you say?) are not adding any fuel to the fire on this occasion. ?
  3. Hi. Thanks so much for hearing your views, really interesting to read. I am curious what alternative measures you would propose, that are more in line with ideals of the EU? There is no doubt that the porosity of European borders is what contributed to the spread of the virus across the continent. Although I agree that there has been a slide toward inward-looking politics, I am very interested to know, based on your experience, what "stronger together" choices might look like in this situation? As much as it is a terrible reality for smaller nations (coming from one myself), surely a country has a responsibility to its citizens first? If there are 10 ventilators in France, and 100 French people need a ventilator, is the French government realistically able to justify to its people giving 5 ventilators (or even 1) to Italy?
  4. That sounds really stressful! Curious how your Fulbright experience differs from others I've heard though - I thought that you list your top 3 choices and then IIE makes all applications on your behalf, before presenting you with a final offer that you can take or leave? This sounds like you hear about the outcome of each choice and you make the final decision (which sounds infinitely better!).
  5. Hi. Long time lurker/first time poster, anxiety got the better of me today. I have spent the day coordinating a public communications strategy for my government given WHO's declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic yesterday. Suffice to say it's been hectic af yet I STILL somehow have time to check this forum and the Admissions Blog at regular intervals. Think it's definitely time for a pint or two (or more). ?
