  1. Hey, so sorry to hear this! I received an offer from WashU about two weeks ago. Like you, I am still waiting on Brown which is very uncharacteristic of them. Maybe they are rejecting based on cut offs (i.e., the first batch of rejections made it to the final round but were later rejected etc). Either way, still frustrating. For UCI, I didn't apply but I know some applicants who already have formal offers from the program. This is probably not the news you want to hear, but good luck! Good news is coming!
  2. I know this may not help much, but don’t despair. Grad applications/admissions is an actual crapshoot and we just don’t know how it works. I hope you get into a good program and months from now when you are in a grad program, the rejections hurt less. Still haven’t gotten mine yet and I am very close to pulling my hair out. I know it’s a rejection, it’s just so tortuous they haven’t officially notified me. Ugh!!
  3. I hope they have a waitlist as well; it is strange that an highly ranked program wouldn't consider waitlisting some applicants. I just got a rejection from one of the programs I applied and while it wasn't my top choice, it still hurts. This and the (potential) rejection from Brown will definitely hurt my mental health this week.
  4. Sorry to hear that. Hope you already have a good offer so the rejection doesn’t sting too much! Nothing yet from Brown, even in spam. I just want to get the official rejection already so I can move on.
  5. I haven’t heard anything either but I’m assuming the decisions will be rolling out. At this point, it’s either a rejection or a waitlist. Mine will most likely be a rejection as I didn’t have a good fit with Brown (it’s not strong immigration program). Good luck!!
  6. Congrats! I received an email from them yesterday to ask if I would like to be put on a waitlist because they don't have enough funding to offer me an admission. Has anyone been offered something similar to this before?
  7. They definitely do give full tuition and 2/3. I know someone who got the latter and I had ~2/3 tuition waived. I do agree with picking which program is right for you and that is entirely dependent on the applicant and their expectations etc. I loved my time there. Was it challenging? Yes. Would I do it all over again? As crazy as it sounds, yes.
  8. That's definitely a good plan, but many programs haven't released decisions yet. The timeline this year is very strange and expected. I am still waiting on 8 out of 9 programs so I still have a long way to go. For masters programs, the only one I am familiar with is UChicago MAPSS because I am an alumnus. It is a wonderful program and if you didn't apply to UChicago Ph.D., you can still apply because I believe their application is still open. I know the website says that direct applicants and referrals are treated equally and while there is some truths to that, I would say that referrals are usually given better scholarships (I was referred and got most of my tuition waived).
  9. Tell me about it. Some programs are early and some are late. All bets are definitely off for this cycle and that is driving me slightly insane too.
  10. Hoping they release something soon because I am getting angsty and unfortunately, the distractions are not working anymore.
  11. Does anyone know when Brown usually release their decisions? Or if anyone has heard from Brown? Based on past cycles reported on GradCafe, it seems like we may get something this week, but programs have been late this cycle. Thanks!
  12. My portal still says submitted as well. I don't know how many people are in a cohort but I am guessing that it would be small because it is a small and relatively new program.
  13. Decisions might be rolling out pretty soon so keep the faith! I actually just got accepted via telephone call about two hours ago and wanted to know if anyone else had heard anything as well, and also what their research interests are. I did see the acceptance post on grad cafe.
  14. What was your process like? I know it is a very small program, but I am very impressed with it. Thanks!
  15. To add unto what @saffasrass said, you could be deferred to MAPSS. It is a great program! Also, I am applying this cycle and haven't heard anything and that's mostly (probably) because many of the programs I applied to don't interview prospective candidates.
  16. To the post above, I didn't apply to UChicago but I know a few who did and they haven't heard back either. It is strange and nerve-racking but unfortunately, there is nothing you can do but be patient. Good luck!
  17. To those who were referred to MAPSS, did you your application portal update? It is not an acceptance/rejection update, it just created a new application for me for some reason.
  18. We just found him. I’ll start compiling the questions and most likely send it your way tomorrow. Once again, thank you!
  19. I haven’t had the chance to respond because my sister’s cat is missing and its difficult to find him because it’s freezing in Texas right now. I do have some other questions that I will send to you once I’m better situated. Thank you so much!
  20. It’s no bother. No, I wasn’t. I don’t think applicants that are referred to the MAPSS program were interviewed.
  21. I received an update that said my application was referred to the MAPSS program and unsurprisingly, was rejected from their doctoral program.
  22. Same here as well. I have participated in the Bootcamp before and it is great. Happy I was chosen once again.
  23. Thanks for the encouragement. I am considering that, because if this doesn't work out, I will be applying for the next cycle. Just as Nietzsche said, "what does not kill you makes you stronger."
