  1. I was looking at last years forum and they did the same unfortunately ? they probably don’t have a great system. Also bc of covid they probably are talking longer. They probably haven’t worked it out how to get applications to readers the safest and the most efficient way. It’s just terrible they don’t know how to communicate either.
  2. Hey congratulations on getting in to schools everyone! What are your main goals after receiving MSW? Therapy? Case Manager? Government? Corporate Philanthropy? Etc.
  3. In your essays for MSW programs did anyone write about a professor they specifically wanted to work with?
  4. I apologize and thank you for correcting me!!
  5. I only applied to CSSW for SW programs and I’m getting very discouraged with attending due to the fact on how they treat the biwoc especially black women. Also it’s really hard to see that the professor wasn’t even spoken to they just keep coming out with statements. I applied to a duel degree with SIPA so if I get in there I might just do that.
  6. Yes I signed up for it!
  7. For those who applied to Columbia what are your stats?
  8. I just applied a couple days before the deadline and I got that same email. Last years thread said they didn’t get their acceptance emails until mid-late April even the ones who applied early.
  9. I’m looking at MSW fall 2020 and a lot of people don’t hear back from Columbia until April and most well into May ? A lot of them are disappointed how Columbia handled this whole thing last year. Yikes. I’m still very hopeful and it won’t turn out like that this year!
  10. I would definitely like to take classes in person and get the full experience. During undergrad I lived a big city and loved it and now I would like to experience another big city. It would be interesting to move to a city and take online classes. But we will see. I don’t think I would defer as well because I would like to get my career start ASAP.
  11. For those who got into programs already congratulations! Because the pandemic isn’t over yet, if it continues into Fall 2021 would you end up deferring or don’t mind taking classes online? or If it ends this year and vaccines have rolled out. Would you take in person classes Fall 2021 let’s say at Columbia/UPenn/BC/BU/UCLA if there was no social life due to people moving out and things changing? (if the experience of the city was an important factor)
  12. Who is still working on applications? lol ?
  13. You persevered! I love to see it, congratulations again!! I also have hospital and medical experience it’s nice to know I’m not alone. Whichever you choose that school will be lucky to have you!
  14. congratulations!!! Is this your first time applying?
  15. Thank you! That would be so helpful. It says resume on the application but they imply CV in the description without actually saying CV so I was confused. I’ll message you soon!
  16. For those who applied to Columbia, for the resume part did you do a CV or traditional resume? Also did you add any skills or just stuck to languages. For descriptions of community and leadership you just included that in the bullet points right when explaining what you did?
  17. Nice! I did the same thing. I did a mix of both but leaning towards SOP. Good luck!
  18. For those applying to Columbia, I know the essays differ but for those who are doing on campus 2 year program...would you say the first essay prompt is a personal statement, statement of purpose or a mix of both?
  19. I went to UCLA for undergrad graduated in 2017 and some of my friends who graduated with me went straight into the MSW program at UCLA. It’s so nice to see a lot of people apply!! The campus is beautiful and Westwood is really nice. I miss it! Good luck!! I’m only applying to one school Columbia! I’ve started the application process back in September when it opened but now I’m stuck. I’ve asked 5 professors and a professor I worked with a UCLA for RA things for LORs and only one responded. I’ve followed up with them and I’m really understanding with the pandemic bc majority of them are teaching online so they must be swamped. Not sure if I can get it in my the priority deadline, does anyone know what that means exactly? From what I remember from the info sessions it doesn’t mean early decision right? Also I’ve been currently doing grant proposals and research for a professor at a university back home to gain more experience and what would be a good time to ask if they can write me a LOR? I just started in September so it’s pretty fresh. The only thing is I want to submit my app by the deadline of dec. 1st. I’ve also heard that you can submit your application by dec 1st and they give a bit of leeway for LORs but they aren’t going to read your app until it’s completed with all LORs. Also how acceptable would be a LOR from a elementary school teacher that just retired this year? I’ve done volunteer work with her since 2012. But I’m pretty sure she doesn’t have access to school letterheads or emails. These are minor details for sure but I’m wondering if they need to explain they retired this year. I’m just concerned haha.
  20. I don’t think the application is out yet for Columbia
  21. Thank you for the information! I checked signed into the application portal but nothing popped up. I’ll check again.
  22. Hey! Does anyone know when the Columbia application is up? Last year I heard it went up in August, but maybe because of covid things have changed? Not quite sure.
