  1. A little late to the party, but accepted (MPA) with 100% tuition scholarship. Would love to chat with y'all about the school. Also applied to HKS and a handful of MBA programs, but this was the first decision I received.
  2. I've been a volunteer member of a Latino operated non-profit for the past 5+ years (I'm Puerto Rican). I also own and operate a small real estate investment business that provides some affordable housing. I joined the last company I worked at because of their values orientation. My current experience is working on campaigns that have been fighting for income equality. Would this be enough?
  3. Definitely applying to Yale. I ask about lower ranked schools in case I don't get in.
  4. How would the MPA from somewhere like Wagner compare to a lower ranked MBA program like Tepper/McCombs for nonprofit management placement in NYC or nationwide? Consider that I have a decent finance background already.
  5. You're absolutely right about this. As I mentioned, I'm still in the early stages of looking into schools and programs. I was just trying to put together a list of schools I'm generally interested in that don't require the GRE. I am primarily interested in Public/Nonprofit Management or Public & Social Sector Consulting. Geographically, I would like to continue living in NYC or the East Coast after graduation. I was also interested in programs at universities with good MBA programs, since there seems to be an employment benefit especially for consulting. Based on this, which would you strike from the list, and what would you add? What's the best way to learn about programs other than their website?
  6. Still in the early stages of researching schools, but these are the programs where I'm currently looking at applying to: Goldman, Wagner, Trachtenberg, SIPA, McCourt, Maxwell, Price, Sanford, Evans, Bloustein. All of these programs have made the GRE optional or grant some kind of waiver. I ask because the story with my GPA worries me. I dropped out of a top private school after a couple years with like a 2.0. I then went to community college for a year, and subsequently graduated from a top public school with a 3.65 GPA. I think if you average everything out it comes to like a 3.2. Since graduating, I've had a pretty decent career working in finance, real estate, high-growth startups, and campaigns for the last 5+ years. Is my GPA something that I need to worry about when applying to these schools?
  7. This was extremely helpful. Thanks so much!
  8. I have 5+ years of experience working in finance, real estate, high-growth start-ups, and campaigns. I also started my own small business. I'm now switching careers and looking for MPA/MPP programs that are maybe more catered to experienced candidates. Also, I'm looking for programs that can either waive the GRE or do not require it. Would be interested in studying abroad as well. So far I've found American, Sciences Po, and Oxford. Any others worth considering? Also, any idea how schools will view my experience?
