  1. I doubt we would be a great first choice, but University of Cincinnati recently hired Melissa Jacquart (Western) who does philosophy of physics, especially astrophysics, and her partner also sometimes teaches grad courses in the department, Lucas Dunlap (Maryland) does philosophy of physics, especially quantum mechanics. We are also a pretty phil science heavy department, but mostly cog sci and biology. We do have students getting masters degrees in their science fields though, if you are interested in doing empirically-informed philosophy of science. I have not heard anyone doing physics yet, but we have had people do psychology, geology, biology, and mathematics. If that's enough, we might be a fun maybe school. Good luck!
  2. It's already reflected in those really nice spreadsheets, but the University of Cincinnati is accepting applicants, waived the GRE requirement, and is still planning to admit a normal-sized class of 3-4 students with our 5-year funding package (at least last I heard from meetings). We have heard nothing about cuts in our stipends either, so they seem to be staying the same (the school actually had a university-wide stipend minimum increase but philosophy already paid more than the increase). The department is also actively advertising the program through social media.
  3. The University of Cincinnati is not a dual PhD program, but many of our graduate students get a masters degree in psych (or other fields like biology, geology, mathematics, classics, etc.). We also have a several students that work in psychology labs, especially UC's Cognition Action and Perception lab, and publish in both psychology and philosophy. I would recommend browsing the website to get a sense of the program. You might reach out to Tony Chemero, he has appointments in both psychology and philosophy. Good luck!
  4. Hi, I'm a 3rd year PhD student at the University of Cincinnati. I cannot tell you if you are competitive, but I can tell you that we admit a pretty wide range of people with different backgrounds. At least one student in the program joined with no philosophy background and one person was admitted last year who already holds a PhD in a different field. To echo some other sentiments, the non-GPA portions of your application will carry a lot more weight. When I visited UC, the professors I met referenced stuff from my writing sample, personal statement, and CV. Cincinnati does not get the huge influx of applicants that bigger schools like Chicago get, but it is still quite competitive. It's also hard to know what the applicant pool will look like this year because of the pandemic. On one hand, many people will put off applying this year meaning a less competitive pool. On the other hand, many schools are not taking applicants this year which may cause crowded effects at other schools (relative to student interest and such). Anyway, good luck in your application process!
