  1. I wouldn't read too much into the letters' wordings. Most of them are generic and are not tailored to specific applicants. If you are really interested in seeking feedback for your application, you can try emailing the department to ask for one. I am not hopeful that they will provide useful feedback though. A remarkable exception is when Alexander Guerrero (Rutgers' Director of Graduate Admissions) personally provided quite comprehensive feedback for rejected applicants.) This was quite a massive effort as he sent out 103 such feedbacks! I doubt most programs will put nearly as much effort into providing feedback as Guerrero did. But hey, who knows, there might be more Guerreros out there, so perhaps worth a shot!
  2. One possibility to consider is to talk about this with your letter writers and request them to explain the situation in their recommendation letters
  3. Why do schools wait forever to send out rejections...? There are programs that already sent out acceptances and waitlists like a month ago but not the rejections... Just give us a quick death rather than drag it out please ?
  4. Anyone with any updates regarding CMU? Other than this acceptance post, I've not seen anyone else claim anything from CMU, be it acceptance, waitlist, or rejection... The anxiety is killing me
  5. This is interesting. You mean that WUSTL specifically stated rejection was due to fit? My rejection from WUSTL simply said that I cannot be admitted after careful consideration ?
  6. I was checking applications recently and realised that I did not submit my official TOEFL scores for my application to UNC. I emailed the department and the graduate school to ask whether official TOEFL scores are required (no one emailed me to request for the missing scores), and if an unofficial score would suffice for now. Both replied that international applications require the official TOEFL score, but both did not make it clear whether the official TOEFL score is simply a formality or something that could tank my application if missing (I guess they're not in the position to make this assessment anyway). So I am in quite a bit of a bind now...my financial situation makes it difficult for me to pay to submit the official TOEFL scores, but I am worried that my application will be affected otherwise. My understanding most programs see the TOEFL as more formality than something that gives serious weight when assessing candidates--but I could be wrong. Any advice would be appreciated!
  7. This argument about whether OP has a good chance of getting into a program really shows why we're philosophers huh? I have no strong opinion about whether OP has a good chance or not, but just a reminder to keep it civil Also spare a thought for OP who is assured that he has a good chance and then immediately refuted...and now is probably rather confused.
  8. I made a terrible mistake. I meant to post my WUSTL rejection but brainfarted and typed Duke instead. I tried to reverse or delete it but can't seem to do so...
  9. It's not clear to me whether the results page is showing that 3 accepted applicants. The info there states that 11 have been scheduled for an interview. Does this mean these 11 have been waitlisted (pending successful interview) and that there is a separate pool of applicants that have been accepted without needing an interview? Or is it that these 11 are the only candidates UCI is considering, and that everyone else is either rejected or possibly waitlisted? On reflection, it make most sense to me that the 11 applicants are the only candidates UCI is considering. The results page also says that there is a 5 person waitlist, thus this interpretation makes the most sense. In that case...this seems to suggest that people who have received no interview-invite nor waitlist notification have been rejected...? Oh no
  10. I am confused why UCI is informing those waitlisted but not those accepted/rejected. If UCI has decided who to waitlist, doesn't it imply they have decided who to accept/reject? And if so, why only inform the waitlisted but not the accepted/rejected?
