  1. UT Austin is NOT a mid-ranked program; not even close. It is a top 20. Rice maybe but even then it is on the upper end of that range. Both of those schools are great and if you purposely applied to these programs because of the fit (at least 2 if not + professors with similar interests), you should definitely go. Especially UT Austin. If you go to Rice, you would have to work a bit harder for a TT but it's not impossible, I know many plenty of people who got TT from Virginia, Washington, Brown, etc which are in the same ranking, if not lower, as Rice. But to be honest, we all have to work extra hard in this market. It will all come down to your output and how aggressive your advisor is in helping you land a position.
  2. This was very helpful, so thanks @Prof2B for asking and those who responded! Was deciding between Maryland and Ohio State as well.
  3. Hey @BrownSugar, congrats on this cycle. I know this has been litigated already, but I just wanted to add in case one more push could change your calculus. I think turning UChicago for USC is objectively not be the best move. It doesn't matter if you were to teach in the U.S or not, UChicago is arguably a better program and its brand is widely recognized than USC. It will open doors both in academia and industry. Secondly, yes, CA is nice and sunny and all, but this is a decision that will impact your long term career; I will rather go to freezing Chicago if it means I will be able to teach at any of the UC schools and enjoy that weather for the remainder of my career. Also, think about the cost of living in LA, I think Chicago is definitely cheaper which means your stipend will probably go a long way. Anyways, just some points here. If you have truly made your mind, congrats and I wish you the best!
  4. Anyone received official funding package from Ohio State?
  5. When did you get notified for the funding waitlist? Also + on Cornell rejection.
  6. I am officially taking a break from the forum since my only remaining "pending" are likely rejections. If I get in at any of the two remaining schools, it will be a very nice surprise; if not, no need stress about. For those who have been accepted into programs, congrats! For those still waiting, best of luck! Will probably log back around mid March to start talking about programs and where to go etc. Good luck to all!
  7. I hope you get in! I remember you only applied to 4 schools, so I hope you also received offers on the other 3.
  8. I feel you! Does Cornell normally notify waitlists? Also, I wonder, in previous cycles, how long after the acceptance did the rejections come out?
  9. Nada. I even emailed the DGS, crickets. And to add, anyone got any acceptance or rejection since the few over the weekend?
  10. Congrats! I regret not applying at UMich! Hope you get in!
  11. Congrats! What sub/field and what time did you receive the email? Was it personalized?
  12. The previous poster stated UMD offers summer fellowship for 4 summers, however, the amount hasn't be disclosed. I will say it will be around 23/24k a year including the summer. It is doable with roommates but you will likely be stressing about money a little bit. Anything below 30k in the DC area will be tough. 20k for 12 months, absolutely not. That is super low for the DC area.
  13. Yeah that is pretty low for College Park/ DC area and compared to say other schools in areas without high cost of living. UMD is offering roughly 2k a month minus 350 taxes (fed, fica and state). Living on 1650 in the DC area will be difficult and unless you're prepared to live with at least 2 roommates. Guaranteed summer fellowship without TA/RA responsibility is nice though. You could perhaps pick up some extra gigs in the DC area to supplement the yearly amount.
  14. Did they send you funding info or was it just verbal during the "interview"? And how long was it?
  15. It is most likely a troll. People will claim a Cornell admit on here. Someone is using the post about decision being released this week to troll us.
  16. Man, I can't wait for this process to be over. March can't come any sooner.
  17. Yeah, I concur. That is nuts and honestly a red flag. It is not about the size of the cohort at the visiting weekend, it is the traveling part. It is unnecessary risk.
  18. Congrats!!! That is amazing. Did they give you any info on funding?
  19. WAIT! I have an interview at Maryland too. What do you mean it was an acceptance? Like how did the interview go?
  20. AND another day goes by without Northwestern. Seriously.
  21. OH! That doesn't sound fun. I don't get why accept applicants if they can't guarantee funding. Was he accepted from the waitlist?
  22. How drawn out? Like individuals who were accepted and not funded?
