I love research (and honestly research that have policy relevance - maybe a TT position at the IR policy schools like Elliott or Denver could be a great fit) and I have very strong "independent" streak to put it lightly, haha so academia seems like the place I will be happy in. But the horrible TT market and the financial aspect of giving up 5 years of salary equivalent to a TT position is giving me second thoughts.

Guys, anyone know what an actual starting salary range of a tenure track political science AssProf is? I have years of work experience and an MPP and I think I am starting to weigh the pros and cons of giving up my current policy career and going back to school (now that I am in a few programs), especially because I think I am already making the salary of a tenure track professor at the moment. EDIT: No family or kids - so pretty flexible to give it all up.
-
Congrats! I am assuming that is where you will be going if you don't receive a favorable response from the pending programs?
-
Wait, is that for the MA or PhD? If it is for the PhD, when did you get notified?
-
That dude - gets accepted at NYU only and thinks he is the smartest LOL ?
-
Hey lovemyboy, could I suggest you rethink and find healthy ways to cope with app/grad school? It seems most of your posts on here is mostly being sad and losing hope. That is definitely not an approach that will help you succeed. I know this process is full of anxiety and at times self-doubt, but if you cannot at the core believe you deserve your place and the ability to see a rejection as a fuel to prove someone wrong, I am not sure the road ahead will be easy because grad school will be tough and there will be many, many, many rejections.
-
Thanks, I can safely assume I didn't get it in then. What time did you receive that email?
-
Also for those who received admits or waitlist for Princeton, could you please share what time you received the email?
-
Any IR admits or waitlist for Princeton? Seems like its CP and AP.
-
Anyone feel like they wouldn't be hearing from Berkeley, Princeton, and NW at all LOL. I know we will at some point, but the radio silence is a bit too much, especially with other programs releasing decisions according to previous timelines.
-
Yeah, that was me. But I am hoping it comes out sooner than Feb 15th though lol
-
Someone should email Berkeley! I tried calling but it seems the department is only reachable by email.
-
We still have Berkeley y'all - it is just 3 pm over there ?
-
30 mins or so left to 5 pm ET.....Princeton, where are you? ?
-
IR. Not personalized at all, just had my name on the Dear part -- actually the coordinator was the one who sent an email with a pdf letter from the DSG attached.
-
Finally got an official acceptance email (decision was on portal) from the DSG at OSU. Funding decisions will be sent mid Feb and the virtual visit is schedule for March 3rd!
-
I also sense a bloodbath from Princeton -- I have this weird feeling it will be today, around 5 pm. Same with Berkeley.
-
Got a rejection from UCSD as well. Congrats for those who were accepted. So far, 1a/1w/1r/6p
-
Also anyone know about OSU funding? Timeline? Zero communication since receiving that form email from the graduate school.
-
Guys, I just spoke to the NW Political Science. No results have been released. I repeat no results have been released by that department. They are hoping to have admission decisions the week of Feb 15th because they are dealing with increased applications this cycle. All the decisions posted on the results page for NW and that one person who claimed one here are all trolling. SMH.
-
Hey @mypolisciguy - any chance you could screenshot or paste your acceptance notification (of course, redacting any identifiers) so we can put this issue of Northwestern to rest? It will be helpful in helping us finally accept our pending rejections!
-
I hope super short! I hope people who aren't going to accept will decline soon. I hope you're able to get in at Austin or Rice.
-
Got put on "a short waitlist" for Rice. Oh well. 7 more pending. Congrats on all who received admission!
-
Haha yes, January. That tells you where my mind is at...
-
Guys, the waiting is killing me. When do you all think/guess we will start to hear back from Princeton, Berkeley, and Northwestern? Also, I did some half-ass search and it seems Rice likes to release decisions on Fridays, the third week of February, which is tomorrow. So hoping to at least hear from Rice tomorrow.
