  1. Has anyone received their funding offer letter from UCSB yet? I received an offer via phone from P.I., my portal shows my acceptance letter, but I was told I would also receive an emailed department letter with funding details.
  2. I agree that more time with PI and lab is the most important via Zoom. I actually loved the student socials, even if they are awkward; grad students have so much of the intel. Anything over 9 hours hurts anyone's brain on Zoom...I had one that was 6:30am start time (due to time difference) for almost 11 hours, it hurt my soul.
  3. I didn't even answer your question...Palo Alto is APA accredited but more clinical focused from my understanding, I could be wrong. If you're wanting to go into academia, with how competitive it is to get faculty positions, I feel like R01 or bust ?
  4. Ok so given your background you prob know all this but: Apply to counseling and clinical, apply all over the country, apply to competitive and less competitive schools (see Insider's Guide to figure this out) and you should get in somewhere with your strong background. I second reaching out for feedback from schools that rejected your app. You said you applied to mainly highly competitive schools; there are less competitive programs that have ok funding. Maybe consider taking the GRE and psych subject to supplement the grades? Also, how were your letters? Personally, I believe competition will continue like it is this year before it gets better. There are talks of the GRE being largely phased out which opens up the pool and the economic blowback from COVID is just getting started = people out of jobs/going back to school and lack of funding. Sorry if this sounds pessimistic but more realistic in terms of where and when you are applying. I was convinced this year was going to be a breeze but boy did we all get hit with the hardest cycle. Finally, what are you considering a funded vs. not-funded school? Guaranteed funding is competitive but a school that doesn't guarantee funding doesn't necessarily mean you're not going to get funding, sometimes it means you just have to hustle. Best of luck to you!!! You have wayyyy more experience than me I know you WILL get in somewhere!
  5. I posted earlier almost the exact response I received for TC Counseling. Looks like it's both clinical and counseling. I did see last year that some people got last minute invitations to interview...does anyone know when TC Counseling interviews are?
  6. Regarding TC Columbia's Counseling Psych program I just received this email when inquiring about my application: "Final decisions will be released in mid March, and faculty may reach out to schedule an interview anytime before final decisions are made. Interviews are usually conducted in mid February, but truly anything can happen until decisions are released. For this reason, please be sure to check your email regularly." Do we really have a chance until March if we haven't been contacted yet? What do you think?
  7. I feel you. I think it's a new era for this process in general; I can't foresee it getting *less* competitive given the economy, GRE situation, etc. I would say networking and collaborating on projects is going to be even more important than ever, as well as SOP's that are incredibly compelling and hopefully hold more weight. I'm a first gen non trad student (in a lot of ways) and most of the schools I got an invite to had diversity statements. ALL programs should include a diversity statement in addition to SOP in my opinion. Take the extra 5 minutes reading time to really get to know these students and tell a compelling story.
  8. Hey all, insider in TC Columbia counseling program just informed me all initial invites have gone out
  9. Has anyone heard from counseling TC Columbia PI: CH? Based off of last year's posts here, sometimes people are invited up to a week before interviews, so I'm trying not to lose hope! Also, I think both counseling NYU and UT at Austin are reviewing apps.
  10. UT at Knoxville interview invites were out in Dec, interview day is next week. Lehigh went out in Dec as well. ? Not sure about the rest.
  11. School: UC Santa Barbara (accepted 1/20), TAMU, U of Tennessee, Knoxville, U of Penn (M.S.Ed.) Type: Counseling Psychology PhD Date of invite: all december Type of invite: email Interview date(s): UCSB - Jan 14/15, TAMU - Jan 28/29, UT of Knoxville - Jan 28/29, PENN - next week, my choice DM for POI: yes patiently waiting for TC, NYU, UT at Austin all Counseling PhD.
