From what I can infer, your two "top-choice programs" are not necessarily your "favorite program," but you have been accepted into you "favorite program" without guaranteed funding, while you have not yet been shut out of your two "top-choice programs," but rather, waitlisted at one and left to speculate on your position relative the other (which, I would suspect means that you are perhaps waitlisted at both). Does this invite elaboration, or do I have this right?

On Twitter there is a lot of these threads. One of them, last semester, decided to wait until the very end to make a decision just because they could...I just hope these very lucky people make a choice soon enough for the ones on waitlists.

Offered the Gates Cambridge Scholarship as of 1/21 (I was admitted to the PhD program at Cambridge HPS back in November). This is one of my top choices, so I intend to withdraw a number of my other applications.

Eh, historically they send out rejections quite late, and I probably wouldn't count on them since they sent out interviews on 1/29 (according to the results page). I would say "never say never," but since you already have an acceptance and a waitlist, maybe never is the right attitude for them haha.
