  1. Thank you SO kindly for your words of affirmation and validation. ❤️ It's been a really hard year for so many of us and being jobless for the last year has taken a huge toll on me and my already suffering mental health; so many walls I now have up to protect my tender lil heart that I feel like I don't even know how to react in the moment to anything anymore. Thank you for the reminder of my vulnerability and irreducible particularities. I have another job interview in four hours but I'm going to dance around my apartment until then!
  2. Yes yes, thank you so much! I think I'm still in early stages of shock, to be totally honest. The acceptance hasn't totally registered but I'm trying really hard to let myself relish in it!
  3. Got my Brown rejection but I also just got my first acceptance! California College of the Arts sent me my letter of acceptance last night and it feels like a huge weight off. Of course, the world is keeping my ego in check by giving me my first grad acceptance followed by a grad school rejection, and a job rejection in the course of 10 hours, but we keep pushing forward!
  4. yes, I am talking about someone else! this is someone I went to undergrad with.
  5. A few weeks ago I would've agreed with what everyone is saying, but I do actually know a poet in the community who began at a less picky school and was picked for Cornell's program this year, so who even knows anymore. I wouldn't personally want to take that path, but I wouldn't totally count it out. EDIT to mention that I don't know what this person's circumstances were.
  6. "Graduate tuition for academic year 2020–2021 runs between $31,950 to $63,900, depending on your course of study. View the graduate cost of attendance below to find specific information about any programs you’re interested in."
  7. Alright y'all! I don't know if anyone applied to CCA San Francisco's MFA in Writing program, but I've been getting invited to events for the department by professors of the department and am LOSING it because I DON"T KNOW WHAT IT MEANS! It says on their website that decisions go out on the 15th of March and I still don't have a decision in my portal, and I don't want to be reading my situation incorrectly, but one of the professors gave me their personal phone number and said they read my manuscript and I'm squealing because it seems like it might be a good sign! I know CCA's program isn't one with a super competitive application pool (or much funding sadly) but it feels really good to just even be acknowledged at this point lol. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed tightly for Brown and Boston and UCI, but even if I can't attend a program in the fall due to lack of funding, it's so validating to know at least someone is out there reading my crap.
  8. Another rejection here today from UC Davis! Came in the form of a portal update email. This one definitely hurts a little more (especially considering the unwaveable $120 application fee and my heart being pretty set on California) but we're pushing through. So far it's been only rejections here; Northwestern, UMich, and UC Davis now. Holding out for UC Irvine, Brown, Boston, Mills, and CCA San Francisco as much as I can. Not letting this ruin my day today because I got my unemployment back pay from 3 months today and if you asked me a few days ago if I thought I could even still consider grad school this year I would've told you no because I had no money for it and still no job. Keep pushing, y'all. I know it can be really disheartening and frustrating but I promise you're not the only one feeling this way.
  9. Just got my rejection from Michigan! Definitely feeling a bit bummed but I'm hoping it means Brown will be getting back to us soon too. Who knows! Maybe the universe doesn't want me getting my MFA in a colder climate. Keep pushing forward, y'all! If you're feeling anything similar to the levels of anxiety I've been feeling these days, I hear you and see you. We've got this!
  10. I actually had a few places ask for 20 pages of a poetry manuscript! CCA SF wanted around 25 pages. Felt somewhat similarly about Iowa and Northwestern, though!
  11. If there's nothing there, then I'd say keep strong and wait it out! This is what it looks like for me on my portal.
  12. Solidarity, my friend! I applied to the Litowitz program for poetry, yep, but I actually never got an email from them, just checked the status on the portal and saw it got denied.
  13. So I didn't get an email from them (poetry) but I checked my application status on the portal and it said denied/rejected.
  14. Hey all! Lurker on this thread for the last few days as my impatience grows. I received my first rejection from Northwestern last week but haven't received any info from my other programs. I applied to UCIrvine, UCDavis, Mills, UMich, Brown, Boston U, and CCA San Fransisco (poetry focus). Anyone receive any word from any of the schools above? I'm 24 and a first time applicant who is on month 11 of unemployment so the grad school app/job app anxiety has definitely been getting to me a little more this week. It's been a long year for all of us, I'm sure. My partner and I have both been on the edges of our seats waiting for the responses to start coming in! Sending love and good energy to all.
