  1. Thank you! And yes, for fiction:)
  2. Got into The New School with a 75% scholarship. I’m so happy and excited. Good luck to everyone and remember an MFA program does not define your success or ability!
  3. I saw a good amount of people get rejected yesterday on Draft.
  4. When did you hear from NYU? Also CONGRATS
  5. Hi! I got an acceptance and a scholarship. If you are chosen for funding then it comes up as an extra letter in the admissions portal. Congrats on getting in!
  6. Also on the NYU waitlist for fiction. Just happy to be considered at all for such an awesome program! Thankful I have other offers if it doesn’t work out.
  7. HELP ME CHOOSE. So far I’ve only gotten accepted into CCNY and Temple. Neither funded but CCNY has no funding until 2022 so the director said it may change after the first semester. I’m just thankful to have gotten in somewhere! Im interested in horror/gothic writing and lgbt writing. Neither has an lgbt staff writer but both have either thriller/horror and mystery. CCNY is cheaper but it’s NYC so overall it balances it out. Please tell me anything you know about either program and what you think!
  8. For all those interested in some good Christian fiction I recommend Ted Dekker. I grew up very religious (though I’m not anymore), but Dekker was one of the few authors I enjoyed reading and still enjoy reading. His books aren’t necessarily “Christian Literature,” but many times they have an undertone or act as a metaphor. He’s very modern and very weird, which makes it all the more experimental. I continue to read him even as my faith has shifted. Having read almost every notable Christian author, I’d say Dekker is the only modern author that doesn’t hide behind cliches, is still inventive, and has true genuineness in his references. I also enjoy Frank Paretti. Warning both are along the thriller/horror side but Dekker also has dark fantasy.
  9. I got into Temple for fiction!
  10. I’ve only gotten into CCNY and most other schools I applied to are in NYC too. All of us who end up there should meet up when the time comes! Even at diff schools it’s nice to have some writing buddies. a few weeks ago I drove to nyc to drive around the campuses and get a feel. Rent is REALLY down rn I was finding nice apartments in Manhattan for $1400-$1800. Which is crazyyyy for that. But for some reason, Brooklyn was pricier (a first). I think there’s less empty apartments so it’s not as cheap anymore because of demand. My friends who live in NYC recommended the app StreetEasy it’s like Zillow but JUST for NYC apartments and it’s amazing!
  11. Hey! I went to FIU for undergrad and know a lot of the creative writing faculty. Theyre easy to work with and I’d suggest calling to work it out. Good luck!
  12. Ahhh thank you so much this is so helpful!
  13. Your fav up and coming authors Going into my first year of MFA school in the fall I want to be up to date with some up and coming writers. Any recommendations? (This is coming from a lit major who spent too many years reading classics and needs to be refreshed) Preferred genres: horror, thriller, psychological, lgbt, fantasy (open to all)
  14. Mine also says no decision. I’m thinking the same.
  15. Not yet. Application still just says submitted
