I got offered an NSERC CGS-M at one of the schools I applied for, but waitlisted at the others. The school I was offered it at is my lowest ranked choice of the three. Is it still worthwhile to accept the award? Or there any other advantages of having the award for future funding, or should I still consider the (better) schools at which I wasn't offered the award?
I've got offers from all of these schools and I'm trying to decide where to go. I'm more leaning towards Waterloo or McMaster since they are much closer to me than UBC which is the other side of the country. I'm interested in algebra/number theory mostly. Another thing is that I received an NSERC CGS-M at McMaster so my funding is better there, and I would feel kind of silly turning that down. But I think that overall Waterloo is a better school for math. There is research at both places I find interesting though. Any thoughts?
One of my three schools also says "received by administrator" but I got an email from them later saying that this means alternate basically. So it seems some schools are using it to mean waitlisted, but I'm not sure if that's true in your case.
Thank you! It was McMaster. Also for anyone else who applied to Waterloo - I received an email saying that my status will remain as "Received by Administrator” until the competition is over, or we are able to make a scholarship offer. So it seems that some schools are using "Received by Administrator” as another way of saying Alternate.
Did everyone get status updates by email for all three schools? I received two such emails, with updated timestamps in the portal for two schools, but one of my schools is still timestamped from December.
Not sure tbh! All of my choices are great, and I like the research at all the schools, but the potential projects will be very different depending on where I go. I'm kind of agonizing over making a decision so I'm hoping I can used CGS-M to help me decide haha! Best of luck to you as well!
I know, me too! Fortunately I'm super busy with assignments this week so I don't need to think about it too much. Focusing on schoolwork or something else works well to distract me. Where are you applying to?
Hi everyone,
NSERC sent out an email today saying that results will be available starting April 1 at 8am EST, so I thought I would make this thread to discuss to competition and award decisions.
Good luck!
