  1. Thanks! Still trying to convince myself that there wasn't some sort of mistake,or anything lol.
  2. Not necessarily. That's the only acceptance I've seen (it was cross-posted to Draft), it was only yesterday, and Brown tends to have a larger cohort, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were more notifications that haven't gone out. It's definitely a lot less likely that you're in, but I think they likely haven't notified everyone yet (or else we'd see more posts) and none of this rules out you being on a wait list. So... probably a rejection OR waitlist, but there's a slim chance it might not be. On Draft, a user got a hold of NYU and they told her that they had just started making notifications (late february) and would continue notifying all throughout March. So it sounds like a gradual thing where it'll be hard to tell until you actually have a decision.
  3. I know, right? I have to wonder if maybe they'd actually get into a program if they spent more time writing and less time making an endless string of accounts on this forum. Gotta admire the dedication that they make a new account for each new post, just to make sure I (and whoever else has ignored them) see it. I was able to get into a really competitive program, and I honestly don't think I would've if not for the help and support from people on here and draft. Legit, MDP helped me a lot in workshopping, and I learned so much about SOPs, how to interact with people, the type of writing they're looking for, and all the rest from forum comments and Draft. This forum has been a really encouraging place, and workshopping with other people, congratulating other people, and comforting other people has been a very uplifting and educational experience for me. I am genuinely sad for the troll that they haven't had that. I really do hope that one of these days, they figure it out.
  4. A user on draft posted the following after talking to the faculty. "NC State is finishing up notifying for acceptences/waitlist but they still have more to call." I'd assume that by this point, their acceptances and waitlists have all been sent out, but this isn't the most solid. There's an acceptance posted for poetry on the 4th too, which sort of backs this up.
  5. Thanks so much! I'm really glad I made the decision to keep pushing forward and writing new things to submit to places. Last cycle and the start of this one, I was basically like, "Writing is triggering me, so I'm not going to write much while I wait." Which is understandable, but a few months ago, I was like, "Hell no, I'm a writer, and these rejections aren't going to stop me!" I'm glad I got to that point before I got in. For what it's worth, I really do believe in you and your writing. You've overcome so much to get where you are, and I think you've got really good things to say. I want to see your best work, the work that you can do after you've gone through a program and honed your skills from it. So I really do hope you make it in soon ?
  6. As far as I know, he didn't get an official acceptance, but UC Irvine emailed him and said his application was read "with deep interest" and asked for additional writing samples to review. If not a direct acceptance, definitely a sign that he's at the top of the pool =). Really hoping it works out.
  7. Oh definitely. You can even set them to ignore so their posts don't show up. Just click on your name in the top right corner of the site, click on "Ignored users" and add them in. Every time I see a new account crop up, I do that. Though I will say this: after this user has spent literally the entire season hounding me about how bad my writing is, I got in. They were wrong about me. They were wrong about @mrvisser and @Ydrl too. Remember that if you're ever tempted to let the troll's discouraging comments get to you.
  8. A lot of the programs were literally just like "We were unable to accept your application. Goodbye." lol. I'm always appreciative of the programs that take time to try and soften the blow. Hope things work out with Alaska. It's a huge honor just to be waitlisted (though I hope it ends up being an A too!) @MDP I wanted to say thanks for your help, I actually ended up using the piece we workshopped together for my McNeese application. I was hoping that it'd eventually get me into a grad program, I didn't think it'd happen so quickly =).
  9. Hey, congrats! Maybe we'll see each other there lol.
  10. Let me just try to stop bawling for a second so I can say that I'm in at McNeese! I really thought it was all rejections. I'm in shock in the best way possible.
  11. I definitely feel this. I think a lot of it comes down to self-image, and my self-image took a beating from other, non grad school related things, so getting all the rejections isn't great to pile on to that. As always, I recommend everyone try to be really nice to yourselves during this season. No need to beat yourself up when grad school rejections are already more than willing to do that for you. And I'll do my best to practice what I preach, lol.
  12. I'm apparently not the most observant person when it comes to spreadsheets either lol.
  13. Gotcha! I'm not talented enough to figure out what forum name everyone in the email chain has based off their emails ?
  14. I haven't seen a single posting where someone gets an interview with Virginia Tech, and while they do sometimes notify late Feb, they also sometimes notify early/mid march. All available data points to them not having notified yet.
  15. Question: I've seen all these posts about acceptance rates... where do you guys find them? I couldn't find this info independently, and often felt like I was flying blind on how selective my programs were. I feel like most of them say things like 2-3% after the fact, which... isn't the best lol. I'd kill for a 60% acceptance rate, but I have a hard time believing it'd be fully funded.
  16. I mean, I did major in English, and I graduated like... last year, and I still don't have a community like that either, so you're not alone lol. I loved my workshop when I was in college, but there came an exact point where it was much more about me helping other people than other people helping me. I feel kind of bad for saying this, but almost every workshop I've been a part of has felt the same way--I feel like I give a lot, but don't end up receiving much effort/time from people in return. But that's okay, I do value the things I have gotten from them, and I hope that an MFA will kick my butt a bit more =). Not sure if you're part of MDP's email chain, but we've been doing some workshops. I've been slowly working through everyone's pieces, and if you are there, I will get to you eventually =). If not, please feel free to DM me and I can do my best to help out. I'd like to think I can give some sort of useful advice for poetry, but my specialty is definitely fiction and it's not even close.
  17. That usually means nothing, tbh. Most places don't ever post that on their websites, and if they do, they wait till ALL of the notifications, including rejections, are sent. I'd say that I haven't seen people post "fake" acceptances posted as results (they tend to line up fairly neatly from viewing trends), so it's likely that one's real. So it's likely not an acceptance, at the very least if he doesn't hear back in the next few days. Maybe a waitlist, maybe a rejection. And sorry I don't have better news on that front.
  18. Oh, I get it all the time where people are like, "These characters are so hot for each other!" in my writing. And I'm kind of like, "Really? Cool, I guess." But, uh, smut is a whole different kind of monster to write lol.
  19. I'm probably the actual worst person to write smutty romance like... ever. One of the perks of being asexual, I guess *shrug. Guess I'll stick to my emotionally disturbing pieces about messed up relationships lol.
  20. Getting anything other than a Bachelor's wasn't on my purview until I was a sophmore in college (to be fair, I started with transfer credits from high school, so that was semester two.) I had one professor who talked about his graduate school experience. He talked about how if you do it well, you can get fully funded, and about the culture of excellence being much higher. I don't recall much of what he said, but I do remember him saying this: "If you're not sure you want to go to grad school, spend your whole undergrad acting like you're convinced you do so that you get good grades and a good resume." I thought that made good sense, and I was less likely to actually focus on keeping my grades up without a motivation, so I put it in my head that I wanted grad school to be an option. And that idea built momentum over time when I realized that as much as I have to be grateful to my undergraduate for, it wasn't a particularly "elite" experience. I spent most of it as a tutor/helper to other students. At about my junior year, the I didn't feel as challenged by my course work. So more and more, the idea of going to graduate school and being in a more challenging and rigorous atmosphere really appealed to me. I mean, I know I want to be a professor one day, and masters (probably even PHD) is a step on that path. But honestly, I really crave an environment where I have to struggle to keep up. So that's how it happened for me. That one professor said things which caused me to consider it, and the more I considered it, the more I wanted it. Oh, and it's fiction all the way for me. I've written a decent bit of poetry (I actually do a lot of slam, it's like free therapy lol) but fiction is where my heart is.
  21. I'd say it's not "rude," but it likely isn't going to do much. If you have an actual reason for emailing and asking (like, you have an offer that might expire soon,) or if other people have gotten notifications (acceptance, waitlist, AND rejections so you have reason to think yours might've gone missing) I think it's definitely fine. Other than that, you can do it, but it has a small chance of making them slightly annoyed at you and a large chance of not actually producing any useful information. I'd say hold off unless you've got one of the reasons listed above.
  22. I'm in the same boat too, at some point I more or less gave up on getting any acceptances this year, but I think I've made peace with that. Anyway, my list is: Rejected: University of Michigan Arizona State University of Wisconsin-Madison Likely rejected: John Hopkins University of Idaho (Maybe Boise State University? I didn't get an interview request, and someone else posted one for Poetry, so I "think" this is a rejection, but idk) Pending: University of Maryland Brown University Virginia Tech University of Florida Old Dominion University McNeese State University But you know what? Let's say I round up my 12 rejections this year for a total of 20 rejections over the course of the last two years. That won't stop me. I'll work my tail off, read more craft books, write more fiction, and keep fighting. My head is far harder than this brick wall that I'm banging it up against. The wall of admissions will crumble eventually.
  23. Also, if anyone's feeling like last-minute adding a new app, McNeese's window closes on Feb 22 (So Sunday is the last day to submit). They're a good "make yourself feel better by applying to one more" because they don't charge for their first round. They actually don't require, like, anything for their first round other than basically an SOP and short sample.
  24. It's a facebook group and, by the time you get into it, you'll likely have heard from the schools themselves since it usually takes several weeks. It's called MFA Draft. Users post their admissions there.
