  1. Micro-OB applicant. Got an email update from Haas late last week with a rejection.
  2. Appreciate the information! I am mentally preparing to be denied from each program I applied to haha.
  3. Hey, all! Have any of the micro-OB applicants around here heard from the following programs: Emory, UCLA, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, or UNC-Chapel Hill?
  4. Any other micro folks here NOT applying to HBS? Have you heard back from any schools?
  5. By good fortune, my professor submitted the recommendation to both schools (Stanford and Berkeley) at the last moment. I’m not sure I’m prepared to handle the anxiety associated with 14 additional last-minute submissions haha.
  6. I am going through the pain of this right now. I contacted three faculty members in March and told them my plans to apply to doctoral programs, and secured their buy-in to serve as references on my behalf. I followed up again in July and then again in September with finalized information about the programs I was applying to, due dates, a copy of my CV, and even a brief write up (3 - 5 sentences) explaining why each program was a good fit. Two of my recommenders submitted before the end of September. My third recommender assured me in October, in the first week of November, and then again several days ago that they would submit their reference in advance of the December 1 deadline. Unfortunately, they did not follow through. Luckily, I covered my behind and had back-ups ready to go, but there is one program where I will only have 2 / 3 letters of recommendation. This is among the programs I was least likely to get into anyhow, so I am not sweating it too much. EDIT: It seems there is a second program who is unable to accept a substitute letter of reference to replace the one that is missing. Regrettably, it seems then that there will be two programs for which I have only 2 / 3 letters. For all the work that went into these applications, to have this be the outcome for two of them is very disappointing.
  7. I suppose we could modify it to display on the programs we've heard a decision from? EDIT: In the past, I know it's been useful to connect users who are applying to similar programs.
  8. @Mr. Jameson, how are your applications coming along? I know we're both playing catch up @Vyndian to finish! @Vyndian In the wonderful ways of a small world, I hope we have the chance to bump into one another amidst campus interviews, if we should make it that far. If you do not mind sharing, what programs make up your top three?
  9. We are a hetero couple and decided to strike one of my top programs after the Governor passed a highly restrictive anti-abortion bill. There are other programs to which I have applied that we are growing more weary of, either because of how the state's Governor has handled COVID-19 or how the state's legislature has handled freedom of speech issues, vis-a-vis Critical Race Theory. I am incredibly privileged to have such a supporting partner who has made room in our lives for me to pursue this goal, and I would regret asking that she relocate to an environment that was not conducive to her mental or physical health. For how long have you and your partner been married? How are they handling the prospect of relocating for the next few years?
  10. Fair question! There were two driving factors that determined where I would apply: Perceived research fit and university geography. Regarding the first point, there were several prominent OB programs that I decided not to apply to because of a lack of faculty diversity. To the latter point, there were several programs that my partner and I did not feel comfortable applying to because of where the university is. Of the nearly 60 programs I researched, there were approximately 15 programs that we scratched from the list for that reason. It's disappointing in some ways, but I did not feel comfortable pursuing a doctorate in a locale that my partner would not feel comfortable living for the next 5 years.
  11. Here's a 3 step guide I just made, hopefully it makes sense!
  12. I am not getting my hopes up. One reason I am applying to so many programs is because I doubt that I will be a competitive applicant. So, we'll see what happens!
  13. As of this morning, I have submitted 10 of 16 applications. Feeling very good about where I am at, although the reality is setting in about the waiting game ahead. Hopefully these next few months go by quick!
  14. What results have you yielded from your search? Have you identified a few potentially relevant programs? If I were in your shoes, I would consider emailing the program coordinator at one or two universities that you think might be a good fit to inquire about other potentially relevant programs. Feedback from faculty doing this work is likely to be more valuable to you than anything that I can offer. I am sorry to be of so little help, but I simply do not know anything about D.B.A. programs.
  15. Like Vyndian said, most programs will state what information they want to see in the personal statement versus the statement of purpose. UC Berkeley offers a very nice overview of what students might wish to include in a personal statement. You can find that information here.
  16. Hi @Mattsjoe unfortunately I do not have knowledge about D.B.A. programs. What research have you done so far?
  17. @Vyndian It sounds like you and I went through a very similar exercise. I researched the faculty of about 55 universities and then narrowed down to a final list of programs based on faculty fit and geography.
  18. I read an earlier post that you are applying to 19 programs? I thought I was crazy applying to 16! Best wishes to you in the final stretch of submitting your applications.
  19. @Mr. Jameson Applications are coming along, but slowly. The biggest task left to do is to prepare and submit S.O.P for each program. I have a "template" that I am building from and just need to add the relevant faculty names, business school names, etc. Regarding your second inquiry: I reached out to POIs at all but one institution. Responses were a mixed bag, but that is not surprising. How about you?
  20. Might the discussion be better suited for the business school forum? That's where the previous threads have been.
  21. Hey everyone! Hard to believe nearly a year has past since the last Ph.D. application thread got started. For those who are going to be applying in the current cycle (enrollment Fall 2022), please feel free to follow along and contribute to this thread. What universities are you considering? What programs will you be applying to?
  22. Hey folks - I am researching programs for Fall 2022, and one of the management programs recommended is the Rady School at UCSD. After poking around the website, it feels like there are relatively few faculty in the Management division doing active research. Is that true, or am I just missing something? Any current management students that could comment? For what it's worth, I am interested in Micro-OB studies. Thanks!
