  1. I would say it also still looks hopeful since there are a few 2y MSW programs that haven't even sent out admissions yet!
  2. Honestly it's hard to know other peoples' situations - maybe an accidentally incomplete application, or an app that didn't meet admission requirements? Maybe an international student who's only getting a decision now?
  3. Yeah, this seems unusual for UofT
  4. So I don't have a BSW and am applying to 2 year programs, but my impression from reading up and going to webinars for a few programs, it seems like any experience where you're directly interacting with people is something (even customer service), and any experience where you're "helping"/teaching/providing support to people is even better. Probably the closer you can get to social work experience, the better, but if you don't have a BSW they're probably not expecting a lot of that, but rather transferable skills and demonstrated competency in similar environments. Education assistant experience seems like it would be great! I'm probably not the most qualified to comment on this, but that's what I've picked up!
  5. Hey! Given that UofT sent out acceptances to the 1y students a few days later than in previous years, I'm expecting next week as well. Maybe late next week? Doesn't stop me from checking Acorn all the time though lol.
  6. I'm a current UofT student, so I feel like I'm losing my mind a little bit every time I log into Acorn and see "invited" and it's just for the summer session ?
  7. Thanks so much for this, your perspective is super helpful! I think maybe clinical skills wasn't the right wording. While I have a decent amount of experience that could be considered human services/social work related, I think I could benefit from the BSW practicums, to get more direct experience and have a better general baseline. I think I'm also someone who wouldn't mind a break b/w BSW & MSW if I don't get in - I feel like I'll have done a lot of years of postsecondary by that point. Realistically at this point I just have to wait and see what happens - at least if I don't get into any MSWs I've made peace with the BSW route already!
  8. People started to hear back from 2y Laurier (in-person) Apr. 3rd (2018), Mar. 31st (2019), and Apr. 9th (2020). Although I'm pretty sure these were rejections - I think they send those out first. Seemed like there was a pretty long period of time where people heard back gradually, compared to other schools.
  9. I was wondering what people's thoughts were on 2y MSW vs 2y BSW + 1y MSW. I've applied to 2 of each, and I've done a good bit of thinking and number crunching and it seems like based on cost of living in the various cities and available financial aid, it might actually be less expensive to do a BSW first, even though it would take a year longer (aside from a little bit of opportunity cost from working that 3rd year instead). I think what I most need to work on (something that doesn't come as naturally to me) are clinical skills - I feel pretty good about the research and theory side. At this point, I'm thinking I'd almost prefer the extra placement hours and extra time to have a really solid base. I also am just a tiny bit away from the required avg. to apply for OGS (& tri-council funding if I end up doing a thesis) and feel pretty confident that I could up my gpa given a few more undergrad courses. No offers out yet though so I may be getting way ahead of myself! Would it be ridiculous to turn down an MSW offer for a BSW (with the plan to do an MSW later)? Thoughts?
  10. Over the past few years (so 2018, 2019, 2020), the dates for 2y UofT were Mar. 27th, Mar. 25th, and Mar. 29th, respectively. I haven't looked any farther back than that! Edited to add: 2y Laurier (in-person) was Apr. 3rd, Mar. 31st, and Apr. 9th. Hope that saves some other people from having to dig into past forums as well.
  11. Looking at the forum from last year, it seems like there might also be fewer spots from people deferring their acceptance to this year.
  12. Hey! I don't think there's a specific place with all of them listed, but I went to Q&As/webinars for Laurier and UofT, and Laurier said they take 78 students and usually get around 400 apps, and UofT takes 140 students and usually gets around 700 apps. I can't remember if that was overall or for just the 2y program, but my guess is that it's for overall/for both programs. I know that the online program for Laurier has lower acceptance rates, but I can't speak to the specifics of that, I was mostly just listening for fall 2021 2y admissions.
  13. Hey everyone, I'm a 2-year MSW hopeful who's been lurking here since last summer, so I thought it was finally time to post something. It's helpful to hear what kind of gpas and work experience other folks have, but I think it can be really easy to compare yourself to others when really it's just so hard to tell what exact combination of grades/experience will get you in. I know I've gotten pretty intense about checking this forum a lot, and I wanted to hopefully bring a little bit of positivity and hear what you're doing to keep your mind off of waiting for admissions decisions (especially the 2 year folks who might still have a ways to go). It's finally getting a little warmer and sunnier here in southeastern ON, so I'm trying to take advantage of it and get outside a bit more! I also joined a zoom book club to try and rekindle my love of reading outside of just constantly reading for school. Admissions season can be intense - what're you all doing?
