Hey, guys. Still trying to figure out what to do, but will definitely try DAAD's scholarship again.

Wanted to know from you that got the scholarship: which things would you say that contributed to be selected? Any advice on the motivation letter and the CV? Any comments regarding the application?

    Hugs!

I wanted to do this and let it be open so people in the future can read and think about it. I felt so lonely during this process and would’ve been helpful to know more about it.

First of all, start as soon as you can. I heard about the scholarship in August and thats when I started trying to write the motivation letter, cv and doing the portfolio.

I have really high scores at university. I also worked during my studies, at my own company. I did an exchange program and also have a minor degree. At the summer I did some summer courses at the university I wanted to study at.

I also hired some help, I did a consultation with a former daad scholarship holder and he helped me writing my motivation letter. I took a long time thinking about life goals, choosing the experiences that was worth telling and trying to explain not only what I did, but what I learned with them. I highlighted the skills I got with each experience I had, during university classes, work, summer school, and so one. I tried to explain in detail what I did in my former studies and what I want to do next. I really studied the university program, and could explain in detail why do I want to study at this university. What does this master has to offer me, the research they do, the classes…

For my cv I found a professor’s one at the university website and used it as a guide.

I did the german test (it was not required because of covid, my course is in German.) and got also high scores.

I sended 3 recomendation letters, one from my home university, the professor who was my advisor for my ba’s final project. One from a professor at the university I did the exchange program (it was a national one), I also worked as an assistant to this professor so she wrote about that as well. (I actually asked her to let me be her assistant because of this application and I had a great time and did a lot of networking with that) The last one was from an international professor that I got to know during a course I did over the summer.

It’s a lot, but if you are still in university think about what you can do to make your history more appealing. Think about summer courses, if you can do them in Germany at the university you want to study at, better. Try getting some work experience and a letter from a employer.

I hope that helps! Try your best, at the end I felt really happy with the results and also more confident in life. Wishing you all the luck!

Hi everyone! I also got the news today that I've been awarded the (Master's) scholarship ?  Thank you all for having been here along the way, it was really an honor and a pleasure!

I remember finding this forum when there were already 30 pages or something and at first I didn't join, but then I just wanted to join in on the "fun" and the conversation and that was absolutely the right decision! I'm happy for those who also got the scholarship, and my thoughts are with those who got a rejection after this horrible waiting period.. I hope our roads cross nonetheless and that we can meet up someway in Germany somehow! So much respect for all of you ❤️

P.S.: I'll probably still be checking this forum ?

    So happy for you! congratulations

And for those who have tried, it is a big win coming this far. I am sorry you didn’t get it this time, but try again, try other scholarships and don’t give up :)

Hello Clarl...we were allowed to choose the best for our case for the 2 available slots...I chose 1600hrs- 1845hrs German time. The other slot comes a little early.

Thank you Dimba! Trying to plan ahead after many months of waiting. Thanks for sharing

Hello Joym...Yeah we have started the language classes...the second week of our study was Friday....what could be the problem, have tried contacting them regarding your letter of award?

    Hi Dimba,

I would like to know how is the time schedule for the German course. Did they allow you to choose the time of the day you prefer to do it?
Thank you in advance, I am trying to plan my life ahead only knowing that my course starts in August.

I was also rejected by hfbk (film) :( now waiting on hfk - bremen and film university in potsdam. Udk is a great option, good luck!

They say hfbk usually only accepts students that made the Ba there... do you know Pedro Risse? He studied a master at udk something about media...

thank you! Good luck to you too! And let’s hope to get some answers this month :)

Finally! I guess Brazillian office was actually very honest when they told me the results could be out anytime within the first semester, and since the results from the Uni will only be out by the end of this month its even better if I know everything at once haha ?

    Where are you applying to?

I am applying to the udk, Stage Design, the Hfbk in Hamburg and the udk Costume Design. I was already rejected by Hfbk, now waiting on the udk.

    How about you?

So, the main problem at this point (in my opinion, ofcourse) is that the possibility of planning/organizing should be given at the earliest. My results should have been already announced one month ago. At the moment I don't know how to plan my life further, in terms of research or work. The whole thing is a bit unrespectful, but actually, I don't know how difficult/long these processes could be/take up, so I'm trying to be respectful and grateful still.

I agree with you. Usually the answer for the art program is in March! Plenty of time to organize and plan stuff. I am also worried about the german course, as they are so behind will they offer us less course then they usually ofer?! Would it be more hours a day?
I guess if they are so late, like this, they have to make changes and adjust. Hire more people, I don’t know. Is not that the pandemic stroke this year... I understand it makes things harder, but we did apply on time and managed to fulfill all the requirements during very hard times...

Thank you. I won't give up just like that:) though it really hurts, this scholarship was my goal for two years and I even learned German to be a better candidate ?
Let's wait for the official response and I hope someone here will get the grant!

I am sorry to hear that! I can relate so much with you, have also been preparing for this for 2 years now.
Hope you still find your way to do the master! You can start and try the scholarship for the second year, maybe. Also with the students visa you can work part time... I know is not ideal, but it is what I am planning to do if I do enter the master.

Forum out of service, most of the day, and I've panicked.

I thought it was just me hahaha. Also freaked over here...

I don’t know, hope I am so wrong... but have the feeling I could get the answer until the end of the month.... cannot wait anymore and have started to move life forward...

Guys, I've just noticed that my funding end date just changed from 01.10.2025 to 30.09.2025.

    I'm anxious.(?!)

I can imagine the anxiety! It is good news, they are moving forward with the results!

by the way, where do you see that? I haven’t find the dates for funding at my application.

I saw on Instagram, totally random, that someone from Lithuania got the award letter for Master Scholarship last Friday! After UK, I believe now they're starting with EU countries.

    Goodmorning everyone!

Good and bad news. If South America comes after all the countries in the EU... we will receive our answers by Christmas lol. But good to hear some people are receiving answer, at least it’s moving forward! Thank you for the update

I need to vent. I applied to San Jose State University’s Master of Social Work program on November 30th (the day before the deadline) and I haven’t heard anything. I know my procrastination is not a good look, but these applications are hard and I constantly second guess/overthink my essays. I’m seeing/hearing a lot of acceptances into SJSU’s program and I’m honestly losing hope because I got rejected from two MSW programs and I’m questioning if I’m even cut out for social work. I always thought I was because I’m empathetic and compassionate due to my struggles with mental and physical health, but what if they see through my BS that I thought was genuine? Part of me thinks my chances are high because I got my bachelor’s degree from SJSU, had a 3.8 university GPA with a 3.6 cumulative GPA, and was pretty involved on campus. Yet I’m fearful that it’s not enough because I don’t have enough experience or something else I had very little control over. At most, I volunteered at soup kitchens. The past month has been difficult and my mental health is at a new low. I feel worthless and like I won’t accomplish anything.

Sorry to hear that! I didn’t apply to that program, but did applied for a master this year. I can understand your feelings and I also overthink my essays. But what is helping me is making plans for the future with a plan B that can be cancelled in case I get accepted to the master.
It’s a hard year making plans, as I am in Brazil and everything is crazy/closed/dangerous, but I am trying to find a way of doing plans and also to do stuff I like and am passionate about. Hope you can find something to cope with and receive my hug from a distance!

The language course is not necessary 4 months, it can be one or two months as well. I think if they offered a 4 month course now for selected candidates, people would get a notification/e-mail about the enrollment.

In my case, I got notification about the scholarship almost 2 month ago, although I am still waiting for award letter! In that notification they offered 2 month course in August and September. I have read once that duration of the course depends on your prior knowledge of German, but I don't know if it is indeed so. I have German B2 level at the moment.

I understand there is different courses. In my case I have b1... so I am a bit worried that if am required to do 4 months it’s getting too late.

I’ve been wondering this myself. In many instances people would be required to give notice to employers etc, which wouldn’t be possible with such short notice. (Not that I expect news within a week ? but whenever it does come about)

Yes! They are making things so much complicated by all this delay. Is hard to plan ahead not knowing and sometimes impossible not to move forward after almost 6 months waiting...

Exactly, it's been quiet for so long... I'm accepting @Cam31's prediction that we probably won't hear anything this week (again). If they don't tell us next week, aka before June (!), I'm gonna be real pissed off though. We've been waiting anxiously every week since April! June would be too much + university applications are starting to close so?

I think you should apply anyway. Mine already closed and I applied. If you don’t get it and don’t want to go you can refuse it later.
