  1. You'd really think that for such a large organization they'd be able to automate the results. Any comp sci people should write that as a proposal, "I will fix your crap website and stop giving grad students heart attacks"
  2. Team Carleton, let's gooooooo Are you in the eco evo stream too?
  3. Same! My supervisor just sent me back a draft of my proposal and we have a meeting this afternoon to talk about it but I can barely LOOK at it. Thank god she understands I'm a nervous ball of energy with a short attention span.
  4. Amazing!!! Congrats! Make sure you celebrate today! For everyone: let's keep track of last names and try to figure out the order? I'm wondering if it's CGS-D by last name, then PGS-D by last name.
  5. That's terrible! I hope you feel better soon and aren't sick Marking is such a time suck. I normally get a lot of enjoyment out of teaching (I'm literally doing sci comm as a degree so that makes sense) but now that everything is online and I'm just marking, never see my students, and have no interactions with them outside of crisis intervention, it's just become a huge source of stress.
  6. I should also say: individually we're nervous wrecks. But collectively, maybe slightly less? Who knows? I'm three coffees in and have no plans on working today . . .
  7. Oh my god, that sounds awful. Maybe we've all become such nihilists in the last year that we just don't have to energy to be truly nervous anymore?
  8. I've heard a lot of people talk smack about the bus system here. Since I moved here during the panorama I haven't taken it yet though. How's Quebec? When things open up, and it's safe, I want to go and explore more.
  9. Hi! I'm in the Nguyen lab! Lenore seems like a really cool person
  10. My uni has a huge bio department, and my lab is about ~10 students. There's only 1 other PhD in my lab and she's funded through another external grant. Since I started during the pandemic I haven't actually met anyone outside of my own lab . . . So as far as I know, there isn't anyone else. But there probably is, I just have never met them! I think there's another Carleton bio person somewhere on this board? If so, hi!
  11. I'm so happy I stumbled across this forum so that I have other people to talk too! I don't know anyone else from my program in the NSERC competition this year, so this has been great. Since I'm marking a 2nd year Animal Bio exam right now I thought I'd share my favourite answer to brighten everyone's day: "the bird lung is stuff and does not change in volume" Best of luck to everyone!
  12. Ahhh, I hadn't realized that the Proposed Field and Subject Code matched exactly to "committee" since the wording is different. There's also this list of committees online, if anyone else is interested: https://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/NSERC-CRSNG/committees-comites/programs-programmes_eng.asp
  13. What are the committees? I've seen people mentioning different numbers but was never 100% sure what they were referring to.
  14. Is there a difference between results and letters? I'm not sure how that works.
  15. I got it about 2 hours! It's blank when I log in and no info yet.
  16. Should we get together and write an opinion piece? That sounds kind of interesting actually!
  17. I'm an H too! So hopefully soon. I've been spending more time on this board than on writing my proposal this week . . .
  18. Nothing for me yet either! I feel like I'm slowly going insane!
  19. Yes! Sorry if that was confusing, I was just super excited!
  20. New email from NSERC! It was a letting me know to expect an extranet email in 2 days!
  21. I emailed one of the contact emails at NSERC and got this response: "Hello, Due to technical circumstances, the results of the PGSD Award 2021 competition are expected to be released by the end of the month. Thank you for your continued patience. Kristofferson Tandoc (he/him, il/lui) Program Assistant | Adjoint de programmes Scholarships and Fellowships | Programmes de bourses Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada | Conseil de Recherches en Sciences Naturelles et en Génie du Canada" So. At least a person answered?
  22. Yup! I comps and proposal defense are combined and a year in at Carleton!
  23. In my program (Bio) I only have to take 2 classes over the 4 years! The rest is all independent study. So no finals for me this term! I hope yours go well!
  24. That's really cool! I'm looking at novel forestry management practices to manage the spread the mountain pine beetle in BC, AB, and SK. Largely focused on community perspectives of risk and values. So no measuring trees but lots of talking to people in person - which is not a good call in a pandemic! Travelling up north is probably off the table too, huh?
  25. I feel you about field prep! I'm trying to figure out 2 versions of my thesis - one with fieldwork and one without. What kind of fieldwork will you (hopefully!) do?
